Actually there are two (2) major challenges massage therapists in Metro Manila shall be facing this year: first, the deadline of the moratorium for mandatory licensing of massage therapists per Department of Health (DOH) Administrative Order 2010-0034, revised implementing rules and regulations governing massage clinics and sauna bath establishments. Second, the much-anticipated prolonged traffic gridlock in the metropolis. In response to these twopronged challenges for massage therapists we shall be launching our Distance Learning Program (DLP) otherwise known at AWSA as Blended Coursework on Massage Therapy (BCMT), says Eugenio. Here the required two hundred eighty six (286) hours shall be completed both in workplace/home and classroom settings. Mechanisms are in place to make sure that this new program shall not compromise quality standards expected by the Department of Health. Quite interestingly, this distance learning program shall also enable busy spa managers or operators and massage therapists in nearby provinces such as Bulacan, Laguna and others, to avail of the same.

NEW PROGRAMS FOR DOH EXAMS

Asian Wellness and Spa Academy (AWSA) is pleased to announce its three-pronged approach to the DOH Massage Licensure Examinations, as follows: 1) Regular Coursework on Massage Therapy (RCMT); 2) Blended Coursework on Massage Therapy (BCMT); and 3) Online Coursework on Massage Therapy (OMTC). The RCMT is meant to provide an intensive classroom instructions to help ensure a good grasp of the students on the lessons and materials for the DOH exams. The BCMT is designed to answer to the need for students more flexibility in learning due to constraints such as time and distance. The OMT is especially crafted for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who wishes to earn their license while working abroad. The strategy towards DOH massage exams may vary but its total required time for training on each is the same. Every student must have at least two hundred eighty-six (286) study and training time. Mechanisms are in place to help ensure and maintain quality program and activities. The Department of Health employs high training criteria amongst licensurehopefuls. This is primarily to help protect the public from unscrupulous massage practices, according to Dr Josephine Hipolito of the DOH Committee of Examiners for Massage Therapy.

Mga Haka-Haka at Katotohanan: DOH MASSAGE LICENSURE EXAMS

Haka-haka # 1 Mahirap ang DOH eksamin. Katotohanan: Ang eksamin para sa DOH ay sinadyang gawin para sa mga nasa High School. Katunayan ang ginagamit na Reference Manual ay 177 na pahina lamang. Dagdag pa dito, noong December 2012 eksamin halos 100% ang pumasa sa praktikal na eksamin ng DOH. Katunayan, isang bulag na Grade 5 ang natapos ay naging Topnotcher. Ang pangalan niya ay Francisco Grimpula Jr (nasa larawan), na taga AWSA, isa siya sa mga nagkamit ng Top # 5 sa higit kumulang na 800 na kumuha ng eksamin. Haka-haka # 2 Ang paghahanda para sa eksamin ay nakakaapekto sa trabaho. Katotohanan: Lahat ng DOH accredited training institution ay sumisikap na maisaayos ang schedule ng training para di mahirapan ang mga mag-aaral. Haka-haka #3 Sapat na ang TESDA Certificate bilang katumbas ng DOH Massage License. Katotohanan: Magkaiba ang TESDA National Certification doon sa DOH Certificate of Registration ayon sa Presidential Decree 856 o kilala bilang Code of Sanitation of the Philippines, Chapter XII, Massage Clinics and Sauna Establishments, Section 62, na nagsasaad na lahat ng nagmamasahe ay dapat may Certificate of Registration mula sa Kagawaran ng Kalusugan or Department of Health. Pero hinihikayat ng DOH na lahat ng exams passers ay kumuha din the TESDA NC2 on Swedish massage. Haka-haka #4Sobrang mahal ang pangmatrikula (tuition) para sa pagsasanay sa eksamin ng DOH. Katotohanan: Katulad ang karaniwang investments kapag sobrang mura ng puhunan malamang hindi gaano kagaling ang serbisyo. Sa Asian Wellness and Spa Academy katamtaman ang matrikula. Higit sa lahat tinitiyak nito na hindi malulugi ang mag-aaral sa husay ng mga gamit pag-aaral at galing ng pagtututoro. Haka-haka #5Sayang ang matrikula pag hindi nakapasa sa DOH eksamin.
