10. Features of Graduate School Since its foundation, based on the spirit of wa or harmony, advocated by Prince Shotoku, AIT has provided undergraduate education with the aim of production industrial engineers, particularly mid-level engineers, who can comprehensively grasp all industrial activities and make decisions based on a rich sense of human values and wisdom. From these origins, the masters program was established in 1990 in response to the social demand for advanced engineers. As a means to meet social needs not only of regional communities but also in an international context, with the goal of achieving education for training advanced professionals, the graduate engineers with a human perspective based on the Institutes philosophy of wa. The masters program of the Ashikaga Institute of Technology consists of two specia lized fields; Information Science classes are offered not only in cutting-edge research related to contemporary social demands and trends, but also in interdisciplinary and program-wide fields. This guarantees a structure under which students can acquire academic knowledge based on a wide vision, knowledge that is not disproportionately focused on specialized areas, in a way that allows each department to fulfill the role of the graduate school in cultivating human talent.

Features and Curriculum of Program (1) Masters Program of Information Science and Manufacturing Engineering The program provides specialized courses for Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical System Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Systems and Information Engineering, Life Systems Engineering, and Fireworks. (2) Masters Program of Construction and Environment Engineering The program provides specialized courses for Architectural Structure Engineering, Construction Material Engineering, Construction Planning, and Environmental Systems Engineering. 12. Internship program Ashikaga Institute of Technology has promoted collaboration with public and private companies after the establishment. AIT founded the Collaborative Research Center in 1998 for further promotion of the collaborative researches with the government, local authorities, private companies, another universities and foreign institution. Since then, AIT carries out the research and development programs of more than 20 themes on "renewable energy", "mechanical and electrical engineering", "information technology" and "architecture and civil engineering", with various companies, every year. Furthermore, the Ashikaga Chamber of Commerce and Industry offers AIT the cooperation to provide foreign students the opportunity of the study tours and the internship programs of more than 5,200 of the member companies. 13.
