Academic Success Workshop

Use missteps as stepping stones to deeper understanding and greater achievement. Susan Taylor

Introduction

The Academic Success Workshop is a 1 hour workshop designed to help students understand the consequences of being on Probation or Warning, identify reasons for academic difficulties, identify College and University resources, and set academic goals. The workshop will be facilitated by the Office of Undergraduate Student Development. It is required of all CBA students on probation or warning after Fall 2013.

Unsatisfactory Academic Progress Policy

The University cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for good academic standing for all students, including freshmen, is a 2.0. This is a C average. Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 are notified of unsatisfactory academic progress through warning, probation, suspension, or dismissal.

Unsatisfactory Academic Progress Table

The following table establishes the criteria for unsatisfactory progress notifications which are provided to students at the end of each semester:

Academic Warning & Probation

Academic Warning: Applies to a student whose cumulative GPA falls in the warning range at the end of any term of attendance at BGSU. Students on academic warning should not enroll for more than 12 semester hours. Academic Probation: Applies to a student whose cumulative GPA falls in the probation/suspension/dismissal range for the first time. Students on academic probation may not enroll for more than 12-13 semester hours (see the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog for other restrictions).

Academic Suspension
Academic Suspension: Applies to a student whose cumulative GPA falls in the probation/suspension/dismissal range at the end of any term if the student has been placed on probation in any previous semester. Students who have been suspended may not return to BGSU in the two semesters immediately following their suspension, including summer term (see the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog). A student who is suspended may continue enrollment if the student meets one of the following conditions: if, during the previous semester, the student earned a semester GPA of at least 2.0; or if permitted as the result of a successful written appeal to the dean of the student's college.

Academic Dismissal
Academic Dismissal: Applies to a student whose cumulative GPA falls in the academic probation/suspension/dismissal range and who has been placed on suspension in any previous semester. Students who have been dismissed may not enroll again at BGSU for a period of 3 calendar years from the date of dismissal unless they have received favorable action on a written appeal to the College of Business Administration Board of Appeals (see the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog for other restrictions and conditions) A student who is suspended may continue enrollment if the student meets one of the following conditions: if, during the previous semester, the student earned a semester GPA of at least 2.0; or if permitted as the result of a successful written appeal to the dean of the student's college.

Calculating your Grade Point Average (GPA)

A students GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours taken, excluding courses in which the marks S, U, P, INC, W, or WP are recorded. If an INC in a course is not made up by the deadline, the INC will turn to an I and calculated as an F in the GPA.
Example: The following quality points are assigned to each letter grade: A = 4 quality points, B = 3 quality points, C = 2 quality points, D = 1 quality point, F = 0 quality points, WF or I = 0 quality points. Course BA 1500 BIOL 1040 GSW 1110 FREN 2020 MATH 1220 Grade D C S C F Hours 3 4 (3) 3 3 13 Quality Points 3 8 0 (not a graded course) 6 0 17

17 Total Quality Points divided by 13 Total Graded Hours equals 1.30 GPA
