Easy to grow, you can hardly fail with them no matter where you are in the lower 48. Take Sun or partial shade. Shade does cause fewer blooms. The Deer will munch on them, but not when better stuff is available. Like almost any soil. Some nut trees do discourage them. Beautiful colors. Fairly long blooming period.

The
English household gardener never has a bed of one variety flower. They have the nature philosophy of gardening and nature hates a void. The gardens at Anne Hathaways cottage and are great examples.
We
can take cues from the large gardens We dont want that kind of work We want beauty on our own scale Lilies are my favorite flowers but they are not the only flowers that I like. If I could not mix others that I like into the garden, I would not be happy.
Choose a combination of spring, summer, and fall flowering perennials and shrubs to have colorful blooms all season. For example, I have daffodils and tulips in the front of my beds.
Choose perennials that thrive in full sun or bright shade. These are some of my favorites . I have more than a half dozen blended in and they are still blooming and happy here
