An FPGA-based Digital Control Development Method for Power Electronics

DOMAIN IN POWER ELECTRONICS OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this project is to improving performance and design flexibility for digital control of power electronics by using FPGA based digital control method. INTRODUCTION: Fossil fuel prices rise, as oil insecurity deepens, and as concerns about climate change cast a shadow over the future of coal, a new energy economy is emerging. The old energy economy, fueled by oil, coal, and natural gas is being replaced by one powered by wind and solar. Analog control has given way to digital methods that have improved the performance and quality of power converters. FPGA is an uncommitted "sea of gates". The device is programmed by connecting the gates together to form multipliers, registers, adders, these can be done by hardware development language. ABSTRACT: The Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) offers opportunities for improved performance and design flexibility for digital control of power electronics. However, the complexity of Hardware Description Language (HDL) coding can be a barrier for the design engineer. Presented is a system modeling and development environment for FPGA-based digital control that also has the ability to auto-generate HDL code. The method uses Altera DSP Builder technology in a MATLAB / SIMULINK environment to develop a digital power electronics controller. A full-bridge PWM converter for a solar grid-tie inverter was built and close correlation to the model was demonstrated. EXISTING SYSTEM: In the existing system, Normal inverter is used. Microprocessors are used as a controller for inverter in hard ware.

PWM technique is used for controlling the full bridge inverter.

PROPOSED SYSTEM: In the proposed system, Use source as a renewable energy source Simplified Full-Bridge PWM Inverter is used convet from DC-AC. FPGA-based controller for power electronics has been implemented on an Altera Stratix II FPGA. Developing an HDL based power electronics controller using Altera's DSP Builder technology was presented. PI with PWM controllers are used in simulation.
