THE ISLAND SILVER STREET BS1

5PM - 12PM

AN EVENT LED BY THE PEOPLE OF BRISTOL; COMBINING STREET FOOD, ART, POP-UPS, WORKSHOPS, A MARKET AND ALL THINGS LOCAL !

EAT.DRINK.DANCE.
IN ASSOCIATION WITH

What is EAT.DRINK.DANCE?

multi-purpose event which extends the idea of a night market, into an immersive experience. Predominantly a street food market,
The concept behind this street market is a social gathering and encompassing local street food traders; it combines bars and local breweries, installations, pop-ups, art,

workshops, music and an independent market. ! We want to make this into a regular social event taking over
abandoned buildings or courtyards and bringing them alive not just with great food and drink but with local artists, chefs, crafts people and musicians and DJ's over one night, as an alternative way to encourage people to get out of their houses on a friday night.

The aim is to create a festival atmosphere, which people can soak up in the space of an evening, built on local talent and ideas. We hope to attract a crowd of all ages, wanting to enjoy good quality food, drink and art formed

We created this model as we believe this is what night markets are about, creating a buzz and bring people together over exciting, great quality food, music and art.
by the local community.

We have great organisers behind Eat.Drink.Dance including an events, marketing and creative team and a unique venue!

Our rst event in December, attracted a footfall of around 500 people, and stayed

busy throughout the night - with all our street-food vendors selling out! This makes us happy, as it demonstrates the interest in our event concept and all those involved who make the event happen are also happy. However, it is always good to have the help from those involved to help spread the word, through word of mouth and even helping with distributing any posters or yers.

its ethos is to see it as a community led event, and too see many other associates involved. Already we have people involved in our creative team with some of the ideas from the logo to interior
Eat.Drink.Dance is organised by Ursula Hutchinson, who also runs the asian street-food stall ASIA POP! but design of the space to product designers who create the creations for our cocktail bar!

If you feel you have anything you would like to contribute to the organisation of the event or any particular skills to offer up, whether its to help with the running of the event or you have a good idea that you think would work well, please get in touch with Ursula at [eat.drink.dance.uk@gmail.com]

About Eat.Drink.Dance Vendors

! !

We like to get a high quality yet varied collective of vendors for our events and try our best to make sure there are no obvious food clashes. All food vendors that have been chosen have had their food previous tasted for quality and if not a meeting will be made to pre-screen dishes. There will be around 6 - 10 vendors at each Eat.Drink.Dance event and the hours of trading are 5pm - 12pm.

! !

At our last event we had a footfall of around 500 people with the traders averaging around 100 covers, selling out by 10:30pm. Please bear in mind portion prices sell better around the 5 and no more than 10 at these kind of events. We would recommend each vendor to think about the way in which they are serving food, to assure all dishes are served in
Dorshi: British Street Food Award Winners 2013 in December 2013 Eat.Drink.Dance.

Eat.Drink.Dance encourages all vendors to think about buying from local producers and consider ethical choices, to help support local and the economy! This is part of Eat.Drink.Dances ethos, to help people think local.

Bars and Local Brewery

We will be running a bar on the night serving a selection of drinks, from spirits, to cocktails wine and beer. Each event will also have a resident local brewery involved, to support and promote local craft beer, and celebrate the great combination of food with drink! We hope to eventually pair street vendor dishes to a complimentary beer so that people can be encouraged to enjoy food with a great accompaniment. Craft beer has become popular over the last few years and the collaboration of food with craft beer within events are becoming more popular. Bristol has a large amount of local breweries and food ventures, which we believe should

Pop- Ups, Art & Experiences

The soul purpose of the event is to make sure the event brings people together not just over food drink but offer a wide range of educational and immersive experiences and entertainment to our audience for free, or accepting small donations for some entertainment areas. All donations go back into the event to help us constantly trying to improve the quality and quantity of what is delivered. This would include:

Entertainment & Live Music - Walk through experiences or various forms of entertainment Talks - Sharing knowledge and inspiration from various spokespersons Workshops - Provide learning and participation experiences Information Stands - Stands offering local information and education about keeping Bristol green. Artists and Installations- A chance for post grad students and young people to share there work in an professional environment and exposure Independent trades people - Promoting crafts and small independent business, including promotion for those that may be crowd funding Designers- Giving local illustrators and designers work, from designing posters, to signs, to decor.

At our December event we had live DJs playing feel good music all night for everyone to enjoy, a magical cocktail caravan out in the courtyard and a walk-through immersive art exhibition down in the police cells at The Island, curated by third year UWE Fine Art students and we would like to continue expanding the kinds of experiences we can offer at future events.

"We had a wonderful time exploring, especially when a kind stranger offered us a balloon each. Its not often you spend your Friday evening stood in a police cell holding a party balloon, is it? Maybe it is." (Eat.Drink.Dance. December, She and Hem)

Stall Holders

! !

The art and stall holders play an important role in Eat.Drink.Dance. Aside from showcasing The Islands residents we will send out a call for other stall holders, keeping it very open but handpicking what we think would work best at the event. We intend for there to be a range of stalls including the likes of local food producers, clothing, records, arts and crafts and charity fundraisers. We are also encourage collectives to think about joining up and running stalls to showcase their work on a whole or small business or those crowd funding to use the event as a way of promo-

Who will Eat.Drink.Dance appeal to?

! !

Eat.Drink.Dance brings many aspects of an event which the Bristol community can enjoy together over one night

for free. The event is aimed to appeal to a wide audience of people - From families, to foodies, to students. Judging from our last event, it is likely to appeal to a younger audience, mainly under 35s but also to families. One of objectives was to put together an event which would attract a wide variety of Bristols community and encourage participation and a following to promote community cohesion, in a central town location. We have encouraged this by keeping the themes and interest of the event universal such as food, music, art and ideas and have kids areas. We are aiming to create an atmosphere which is warm, welcoming and comfortable. Eat.Drink.Eat is a social occasion - we want people to stick around to soak up the atmosphere, rather than grab something and go.

! ! ! !

Who is involved? We have had some local collectives involved in previous events, and would like to include even more in our future events. This includes local and independent food and stall traders, small business or concepts and a creative and events management team. The participation can range from ideas from, local traders promoting or selling their wares, to the event logo being designed to interior design of the space to the food and drink creations. We like to promote opportunities, especially to those who can gain experience or education. For example, we involved young people from the Creative Youth Network, giving them an opportunity to gain an experience and encouraging them to be apart of something creative. At our last event they ran their own stall promoting their artwork and creations, and this year we have planned to involve them within our creative team and hope to get Youth for Youth involved with the running of our events. We also have involved third year UWE Fine Art Students, working with them showcasing their nal project at our last event. In addition to this, we also try our best to involve small collectives, giving them a chance to showcase their work. At our last event we had:

- Drawn In Bristol (Made In Bristol) teaming up on a stall showcasing their work (http://drawninbristol.co.uk/) - UWE Fine Art students showcasing their work in an exhibition (http://www.uwe.ac.uk/) - BEATS street- food collective residents (http://bristoleats.co.uk/) - Creative Youth Network, showcasing work from their creative projects, giving them a platform to sell their goods and get rst hand experience in this. (http://www.creativeyouthnetwork.org.uk/) - The Islands resident artists showcasing their work or performing music (http://www.theislandbristol.com/artists.html) - Start ups and new business set up by young entrepreneurs such as Moo & Two and The Mute Collective (https://www.facebook.com/MooandTwo)(https://www.facebook.com/TheMuteCollective)

What is The Island and their involvement?

The Island consists of a constantly lively, changing and adapting environment of artist studios, performance spaces, exhibitions and events. It is part of the Artspace Lifespace project, an artist led initiative that recycles vacant, un-used and problem properties into thriving active creative resources. Based in the old police station in Bristol city centre, we have a fantastic central location from which to be a major part of Bristol's thriving art scene.!

The!Island!is a self-funded multi use arts facility and creation centre. We host a wide variety of creative spaces from circus training, dance and rehearsal rooms, workshop spaces and artist studios to dark rooms, recording studios, exhibition spaces and more.! The! Island! is regularly involved with Bristol's art scene, and having recently been involved with BS1 Open, Brisfest, May Fest and Bristol Biennial, The!Island!is rapidly becoming one of the key locations of choice to be involved in local art promotion.!

Eat.Drink.Dance wanted to get involved with the island one of the liveliest and thriving artist communities in Bristol, with host to around 50 working artists. All of these artists are the beating heart of The! Island, continually producing and showcasing new and engaging artwork. Our studios are of varying sizes and range from huge open spaces, to smaller solo studios, to our converted cell studios which are exclusively used by artists who work with sound and music.

! !

On the night Eat.Drink.Dance will showcase some of the Islands resident artists. We hope to see the visual artists and crafts people of The Island to be selling their work on our stalls and the music artists from Lock Down Studios will be bringing you great music all evening DJ-ing in the courtyard. The Courtyard Venue

! !

The courtyard of The Island joins the Firestation, Lazer Quest, The Old Courtrooms and The Island. It is a large space, with the potential to expand, with the use of the empty indoor building space backing onto the courtyard. Currently we are using the whole outdoor space, with the hope to use the Kitchen cafe as an indoor seating area, the workshop as the brewery pop-up bar and we are in discussion with other indoor possibilities.

The area labelled DJs/ Live Music is sheltered and we also hope to have Eat.Drink.Dances in house bar its home here too!

The entrance to the event will be from Silver Street.
