A ROAD TO HEALTHY BODY AND MIND

Did you know that the average life expectancy of a Tibetan is up to 80 years? This is because everyone in Tibet make it a habit to have a healthy lifestyle in which both their minds and their body are perfectly healthy and balanced. A healthy body and mind means having a happy and fulfilled life. There are strong connections between the health of body and mind, and a happy life. A healthy mind can lead to a healthy body, which automatically lead to a happier life. Its never too late to think about adopting a healthier lifestyle.

There are many ways to a perfect road which leads to a healthy body and mind. First of all, we should perform physical exercises, at least an hour and a half on a weekly basis. This involvement in physical movement would greatly benefit us, as our blood flow will become much smoother. This will cause a chain reaction, where our brains will receive more oxygen from the humongous increase in our blood flow, in turn boosting our thinking and memorizing skills, causing learning for students to be easier and teaching for teachers to be simpler and more efficient. Exercising also helps us to get rid of harmful toxins from our body, reducing the huge amount of work our kidneys have to do to keep us alive. Unfortunately, in status-quo, many people do realize the benefits that can be reaped by exercising but they either irrationally dismiss exercising as a waste of time or they do not have time to exercise at all.

Another way to have a healthy lifestyle is to eat more fruits and vegetables and cutting down our consumption of fat and fast food. We should refer to a detailed food pyramid which will give a lot of information on how to eat. By reducing fat and fast food, we would be easing the heavy job or our digestive system, since these types of food take a longer time and a huge amount of energy to digest. These things seem to be repeated from the mouth of everyone who tries to help people in eating but sadly, yet again most of us dismiss these advices lackadaisically and seem to impetuously try a way which never works- dieting. Dieting, which is supposed to be one of the fool-proof ways of gaining a healthy body is actually reducing the consumption of not just fat and fast food but almost every type of food which is in fact the worst

thing a normal person can do on the road to a healthy body and mind. According to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center guest speaker, Dr. Michael J. Milazzo, dieting is actually a form of treatment for people who go through certain types of illnesses such as people who are diagnosed with high cholesterol and heart diseases. For normal humans on a road to a healthy body and mind, what dieting does to normal people is that it actually drains away a lot of nutrients needed by the body, causing normal people to become sick and in severe casesmalnutrition.

Thirdly, all of us need to take at least eight hours of sleep every day, regardless of certain sources which say that teenagers and adults need only seven hours of sleep a day. A research in the United Kingdom has proved that the energy exerted by the students of the University of Oxford when they were writing a 0science test was enough to light up a 10-volt light bulb! However, thats only for our brains but what about our bodies? The energy exerted by our bodies is much more than our brains. To completely restore the energy of our minds and our bodies from their tremendous exertion of carrying out our daily activities, the best and probably the only way of doing it is by taking a god long nap. There is nothing better than a good, 8-hour long sleep to relax our mind and our body.

Most of the content so far has been on the physical side of a healthy lifestyle. However we should always draw a balancing line between our mind and our bodies. Not one is important than the other as both the importance of the mind and the body has to be equally taken care of on this road of ours. Anyway, the best way to keep our mind healthy is to perform mental exercises atleast an hour every week. The most prominent mental exercises are always board games. Another research done by the lecturers at the Cambridge University has proven that by playing board games such as chess and checkers, both the IQ of adults and children can be increased. These games have also proven to help people of all ages to think more creatively.

To sum up the essay, if all of us can take the proper measures to stay healthy in our lives not only physically and mentally, our lives would be much better and happier. We can build ourselves a road to a healthy body and mind. We might even come to live as long as the

Tibetans. We should remember that leading a healthy life with quality is better than leading a long life filled with illnesses.
