Project Compassion (Week 1)

This week we meet Maristely who lives with her family in a favela (slum) in Brazil. When they first moved to Sao Paulo, favela houses were made of cardboard, there was no electricity or water, and sewage ran down the street. Caritas Australias partner, the Movement for the Defence of Favela Residents, is changing lives across 40 favelas in Sao Paulo by helping families gain access to clean water, electricity and connected sewerage. Across the favelas, there is a dominant culture of violence. The program also promotes peace so young people can attain education and employment rather than joining local gangs. NB: Please take home a Project Compassionate Box or Envelope with you. Camino Reunion: 15 of the 20 pilgrims who walked the Ignatian Way last August from Loyola to Manresa (Spain) will be gathering in Warrnambool next weekend as guests of Fr John.
