CASE STUDY: STEAM PRODUCT SOLUTIONS MANJUNG UNIT 4 - MALAYSIA, ULTRA SUPERCRITICAL COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT

The new power plant is being constructed next to the existing power plant, at Perak, 10 km south of the nearest town Lumut, approximately 288 km north of Kuala Lumpur and close to the tourist island of Pangkor. It will be the first coal-fired power plant in Malaysia using supercritical technology and the single largest unit in South East Asia. Alstoms market-leading ultra-supercritical technology at Manjung will provide additional capacity to meet the increasing demand in one of the worlds fastestgrowing economies, while producing significantly lower emissions than existing plants. It will produce enough electricity to power nearly 2 million Malaysian households.
REDUCING COST OF ELECTRICITY

PROJECT FEATURES

The Manjung 4 Project benefits from the superior integration resulting from Alstoms project management skills, EPC capabilities and state-of-the-art key components:

+ 5 points efficiency*

1 two-pass, ultra-supercritical, once-through PC boiler (tangential firing low NOx combustion system) 1 STF100 steam turbine with one high-pressure, one intermediate-pressure and Two double-flow low pressure turbines for high efficiency and reliability 1 two-pole GIGATOP turbogenerator with the most advanced water / hydrogen

The Manjung 4 ultra-supercritical, higher steam parameters will result in a reduction in operational costs.

14% more power

LOWERING ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT

generated per tonne of coal burned, compared to the existing Manjung power plant.

cooling technology for generators, providing high efficiency, outstanding reliability and simple maintenance Alstoms latest ALSPA Series 6 Distributed Control System Environmental control systems (seawater flue gas desulfurization and pulse jet fabric filter) to reduce flue gas emissions.

>90% SO2 removal**

Manjung 4 benefits from the Seawater Flue Gas Desulphurisation system, designed to treat the complete flue gas.

INCREASING FLEXIBILITY & RELIABILITY

Wide range of coal quality

Manjung 4 unique TSF 2000 firing system enables to burn a wide range of coal, either Bituminous and sub-bituminous.
