Helpers, heres what to do:
Point to the pictures and read aloud the sentence below each one. Have the child answer the question, Do people need water to live? Tell the child that all people need to drink water. Then, for extra fun, color the pictures of the boy and girl.

All living things need water. Point to each picture and read the sentence below it. Ask the child if the item pictured needs water to live. Have the child answer yes or no. Tell the child that plants and animals need water to grow and be healthy.

Helpers, heres what to do:
Water is all around us. It moves through the air and ground over and over again. Ask the child to look at the colorful picture. There are six water droplets in the picture. Ask the child to find all of them. Then count them together.

Helpers, heres what to do:
Help the child study each pair of pictures. Identify which pair is the same and which pair is different. Then, for extra fun, color the pictures!

Helpers, heres what to do:
Sometimes we see things that don't belong in our rivers, lakes and ponds. These things can sometimes hurt the plants and animals that live in the water. Ask the child to find the things that dont belong in the lake pictured (tire, cup, book, paper and can).

Helpers, heres what to do:
Describe the five things that belong in the trash can. Ask the child to trace along the dotted lines to place each thing in the trash can. Encourage the child to place trash where it belongs.

Helpers, heres what to do:
Help the child study the three shapes. Ask the child to color each shape a different color. Together name each shape and its color.

Look at the different-colored shapes. Each shape has a water drop inside. Name the shapes together with the child: triangle, square, rectangle, circle, etc. Ask the child to find each pair of shapes that match. Ask the child what is inside each shape.

How We Use Water


Lets save some of it!
Helpers, heres what to do:
Talk to the child about how we use water inside and outside. Inside, we use it for bathing, brushing our teeth, washing clothes, washing dishes, cooking and drinking. Outside, we use it for washing cars and watering flowers, plants and trees. Ask the child to count the pictures below and then explain how water is used in each picture.

Have the child count the water drops from 1 to 10. Then explain to the child how important it is not to use too much water. We should only use what we need and try not to waste it.

Which things live in water?
Helpers, heres what to do:
Talk to the child about the animals that live in water all or part of the time. Look at each animal and ask the child to decide whether or not it lives in water all or part of the time. Tell the child that we want to keep our water clean and healthy for these animals.

Explain to the child that the word water starts with the letter W and sounds like W (make the sound it makes). Using your finger, trace over the letter below to demonstrate how it is written. Discuss how all living things must have water to survive. Have the child trace over the letter and then color the picture.

Talk to the child about different kinds of weather. Look at all the pictures. Ask the child to find the picture that shows a sunny day, a rainstorm, a rainbow and a cloudy day.
