Preparation of a Project Log Book

Each student doing final year project (ECY6595 / ECY6496 / ECY6197 / ECY6498) is required to have and to use a Project Log Book. You may use a CR book as the project log book and use the given format to keep records (refer pages 3 7). The main objective of using this project log book is to identify and develop your learning processes, and to keep a record of your effort and results related to the project. The form in which you keep the project log book should reflect the objectives of it, i.e. this log book is not solely a record but is a means of securing action. Your project log book is a complete record of everything that you have done for your project which includes: project-team meetings meetings with supervisor/s literature survey designing hardware fabricating hardware testing hardware designing software writing code testing code, etc. Entries should be made: During and immediately after a meeting or discussion with your supervisor. At the start and end of each action/effort related to your project. After consulting an expert in the area of your project. During and after visiting the lab, workshop, field etc. At the end of each working period. (These entries should be made under students notes in the given format.) Keep a record of the time you spend on each step of your project. One easy way to do this is to note the time you started and the time you finished each activity in your log book. In case of group projects each member should keep a separate project log book. At the end of each month you have to fill the monthly progress report in the given format. You must show your Project log book to your supervisor and get it signed with his/her comments at least twice before each progress review. But this should take place at least 2 weeks before the scheduled date of presentation. The purpose of this monthly progress report is to draw threads together by reviewing the previously unconnected experiences recorded earlier. It will probably be a summary of main points, or conclusions from a number of events. If you wish you can maintain this log book until the final evaluation.

Content and form: Although the project log book will be reviewed by your supervisor from time to time, it is addressed to yourself and your own needs and should be a true reflection of your work. At each progress review, your project log book will be assessed by the examination panel as a component in the course grade. Therefore please bring this project log book to each assessment. The following items will be used by your supervisor and the examination panel in assessing your progress in the project. (Only the applicable items to your project are considered.)
