Hardwall or Softwall Cleanrooms, Full-View Plastic Panels

Hardwall (page 4) Select transparent acrylic, dissipative PVC , Lexan or
polypropylene panels, which mount either externally or internally to create smooth, easyclean surfaces. All-steel support frame for strength and easy installation requires no external bracing. All-Steel BioSafe Modular Cleanroom

The most effective design for bio-tech and pharmaceutical applications. 304/316 stainless or powder-coated steel construction resists most solvents, disinfectants and other cleaning solutions. Antimicrobial coatings and panel gaskets create a germ-free environment. Radius corners and raised, drained flooring available for disinfectant wash-down. Double-wall, Raised-Floor Plastic Cleanroom
Ventilation Room
Ideal for applications that require raised flooring for true laminar flow. Double-wall structure allows air to circulate through the inter-wall plenum, increasing filtration and A/C efficiency.

Hardwall Cleanrooms
Terras Hardwall Modular Cleanrooms provide the rigidity and durability of a freestanding room. All components are factory-assembled and tested before shipping, and on-site installation is usually completed in less than a day. Unlike other modular cleanrooms on the market which require complex suspended ceiling supports, Terra cleanrooms are completely freestanding structures.

Fan/Filter Units (FFUs) and Lights

HEPA and ULPA filters meet cleanliness standards to Class 10 (ISO 3). Many configurations available, including carbon units, for chemical vapor removal, and UV sanitation modules to eliminate germs. See pages 20 21.
Control Panel with Operation Status Indicators

Mounted to the right of the access door, this panel allows convenient control of fan/filter units (FFUs), lights, ionizing modules, and other system options. Its mirror-finish contributes the showcase exterior of the cleanroom. It includes a Magnehelic differential pressure gauge, for easy monitoring of internal air pressure, and an Operation Status Indicator (OSI) in each corner, which provides a solid glow to indicate that FFUs are operating, and flashes to indicate theyre not. One required per cleanroom.

Cleanroom Support Frame

The support frame is fabricated of interlocking 134" powder-coated square steel uprights and cross sections. Ceiling members are welded to steel 3" x 112" T-bars, forming the 2' x 4' bays that support filters and lights. Vertical finishing strips, fabricated of mirror-finished 304 stainless steel, hold hardwall panels securely in place. Standard height is 7' measured from filter face to floor (8'3" with filter/fan unit), allowing installation beneath a standard 9' ceiling. Other heights are available.

Hardwall Panels
Standard 4'W x 7'H panels are available in three rigid materials: Acrylic Panels offer economy, visibility and strength. Black and amber panels are also available. Not recommended for use with alcohol or other strong cleaning agents. Difficult to clean since they act as a particle magnet. Static-Dissipative PVC Panels safely remove surface charges, protecting against potentially damaging ESD (electrostatic discharge) as well as particulate attraction. Dissipative layers are molecularly embedded for optimal durability. Surface resistivity: 106 - 108 ohms/sq. (ASTM-D257). Polycarbonate resists many common acids, solvents and cleaning solutions. Polypropylene provides superb resistance to acids and other chemicals (see photo on page 6).
Partitions and Air Locks (Antechambers)

Air Lock serve as contamination buffer zones; as staging areas; or as gowning areas. Partitions create multiple clean zones to meet varying cleanliness requirements inside a single cleanroom. Call to specify configuration. Note: Partitions and air locks must be

Select 304 or 316 stainless steel frames for optimal cleanliness, durability, and chemical resistance. Transparent door panels are available in tempered glass, which is ideal for aseptic E F operations requiring wipe-down with alcohol and other disinfectants, as well as staticdissipative PVC, which eliminates static-charge build-up. F. Parting Strip Shields

Available in standard vinyl or anti-static vinyl, these 4"-W strip shields can be mounted in place of a standard door or 4-foot wide hardwall panel at any location along the perimeter of the cleanroom or along an internal dividing wall. To order, see page 18. Strip shields are not designed to maintain pressure differentials between clean areas.

HEPA-Filtered High-Velocity Air Curtain

This High-Velocity Air Curtain mounts to a doorway to minimize contamination of the clean area. A motion sensor mounted directly above the doorway activates the unit the moment the door is opened, directing HEPA-filtered air downward at up to 1900 feet/minute to reduce particle influx as personnel enter or exit the cleanroom. This barrier of high-velocity, clean air also removes particles from cleanroom garb and minimizes escape of conditioned air from the cleanroom, reducing load on the HVAC system. BioSafe Modular Panels Custom Configurations with Modular Convenience

The two-piece design of BioSafe steel panels provides the benefits of standard bio-cleanroom wall construction in a completely modular, pre-engineered panel. Their unique design supports aseptic operations. All panel materialspowdercoated steel, 304/316 stainless steel, and tempered safety glassstand up to frequent cleaning with standard disinfectants, including DI water/alcohol solutions. Panel seams are caulked to eliminate cracks that could harbor germs and other contaminants. Radius bends on corner panels further facilitate cleaning by providing smooth surfaces that are easy to wipe down. Each panel features a snap-off cover for access to internal components: Electrical and data line: installation of all wiring inside the panel allows flush-mount outlets and data ports. Air returns: internal air channels eliminate the need for vertical ducting of return air in air-conditioned rooms (see page 11). Insulation: insulation mounted inside the panels reduces energy costs while deadening noise and vibration. Vacuum, DI water and gas utilities: quick-connect fittings allow convenient access to service lines plumbed inside the panels. Because BioSafe panels require no external bracing or other supports, these structures typically require no special permitting and can be installed in a fraction of the time required for conventional cleanroom buildings. Upon request, Terra provides seismic and electrical certications; see page 28.

BioSafe Cleanrooms Complex Floor Plans

BioSafe panels function equally well as exterior and interior walls. Their modular design simplifies the engineering of multi-room facilities. They also allow configuration of entrance and exit corridors, gowning rooms, and service areas. The ceiling filtration system is likewise pre-engineered for optimal versatility, allowing rapid configuration of rooms to meet cleanliness standards from ISO 8 to ISO 4 (Class Multiple-suite stainless 100,000 to Class 10). Such optional features as remote fan/filter control modules and steel BioSafe facility with adjustable air return registers allow cascading cleanliness levels and air pressures in gowning room and five multi-room applications. adjacent rooms ranging

This versatility allows a room to be upgraded to more stringent cleanliness level if required, either by adding additional Fan/Filter Units (FFUs) or ramping up operating speed of existing FFUs from a remote touchscreen control. Rooms with less critical cleanliness requirements operate with fewer FFUs, reducing energy and maintenance expenses. Ceiling-mounted high-volume exhaust fans can be used to draw air from a production room, creating negative air pressure required in BSL 2 cleanrooms.

BioSafe Cleanrooms HVAC and Air Control

Terra air conditioning modules maintain the narrow temperature range required by garbed personnel and sensitive equipment inside a BioSafe modular cleanroom. Several configurations are available, with return air recirculated to the A/C unit through Vertical Air Return modules mounted outside the cleanroom or directly through the BioSafe cleanroom panels. Air exiting the A/C unit passes either into a ceiling plenum chamber, which feeds all fan/filter units, or into ducts that feed each FFU individually. See page 24 for more information.
Negative-Pressure Cleanrooms
High-volume exhaust fans integrated into the air system allow a BioSafe Cleanroom to operate under negative pressure while meeting cleanliness requirements for particle counts and air changes. This negative-pressure configuration helps meet bio-safety requirements (BSL-1 and BSL-2) for operations with potential biohazards. Call Terra to discuss you application.

BioSafe Cleanrooms: Controlled Access

Access doors are available in several designs to meet varying requirements for cleanliness and clearance, including mirror-finished stainless steel and glass (see page 7). Terra also offers the industrys widest range of specialized pass-through chambers and air showers to eliminate contamination during transfer of materials in and out of the cleanroom. All are available for mounting in a BioSafe room.
Roll-Up Door Cart Pass-Through, installed in a 304 SS BioSafe Cleanroom
Roll-Up Door Pass-Throughs are ideal for cart transfer. Their rapidresponse doors open and close at the push of a button. Electronic interlocks prevent both doors from opening at once. CleanSeam Wall-Mount Pass-Throughs come with continuousseam welds the minimize particle influx when a door is opened. They are available in 304/316 stainless or powder-coated steel to match the BioSafe panel style. BioSafe Pass-Throughs feature double-wall 304/316 stainless steel construction with smooth interiors and a seamless, lipless design to each cleaning and sterilization. The interlock is housed in a separate, isolated chamber to reduce cracks that can collect germs and particles.

Air Showers include adjustable nozzles that direct high-velocity, HEPAfiltered air at personnel and materials as they enter the cleanroom. Control system interlocks the access doors and allows adjustment of cycle time. Unlike conventional cleanrooms, it features a versatile air handling system that lets you configure the working space for your requirements. Neutral Pressure Room: 100% Air Recirculation (Fig. A) Congured as a neutral pressure room, this system ensures 100% recirculation of exhausted air and complete protection of the external environment. An outlet filter/blower module recessed in the wall at the rear of the processing area draws air away from the operator into dual HEPA outlet filters, which contain any airborne chemical powder. These filters can be discarded or processed for chemical reclamation. Outlet air then passes through a make-up air duct and back into the ceiling filter/fan unit mounted on the ceiling. Positive Pressure Room: Filter/Fan Units (Fig. B) This additional protection optimizes product purity by controlling airborne aerosols, microbes, and other submicron particles. Ceiling filter/fan units (FFUs) create a positive pressure inside the room that blocks the inrush of contaminants. FFUs can be positioned at the access area to form a contamination barrier, or uniformly throughout the ceiling grid to create laminar airflow (see inside cover for recommended configurations). Negative Pressure Room: Exhaust Ventilation (Fig. C) For additional protection of personnel inside the room, the CleanZone Recirculation System lets you adjust the percentage of air recirculated into the containment room. By exhausting a portion of the air drawn into the filtration system, you create a negative pressure that pulls air away from the operator. A flanged adapter panel, either with or without adjustable damper, lets you duct exhausted air to an in-house ventilation system. Terras Air Handling Modules include a highvolume fan and filter for ductless ventilation.

Softwall Cleanrooms
Terras Softwall Modular Cleanrooms provide an economical, versatile solution to clean manufacturing requirements in semiconductor, medical device, and many other industries. Softwall Support Frame

The support frame is fabricated of interlocking 212" powder-coated square steel uprights, cross sections, and ceiling members. Ceiling members are welded to steel T-bars, forming the 2' x 4' bays that support filters and lights. Corner reinforcement gussets ensure a rigid structure. Optional heavy-duty casters allow easy repositioning after installation. Standard height is 7' measured from filter face to floor (8' 3" overall), allowing installation below a standard 9' ceiling. Note: Walls over 8' long require an additional vertical support member.
Softwall Curtains & Strip Shields

Softwall panels are fabricated of heavy-duty, blurfree 40 mil materialdouble the industry standard ensuring enhanced tear resistance and eliminating the need for unsightly sewn sash weights. Strip shields, made of 40-mil material, come standard in 12" widths, with 2" overlap, for easy entrance or exiting. Polyurethane shields are 12"W, 40 mil thick. Curtains and strips are available in three materials, in either clear or frosted appearance. See pg. 18 for ordering information. Softwall Curtains and Strip Shields Order curtains and strip shields from pages 18 19. Curtain material is 40-mil thick, clear PVC (anti-static PVC and polyurethane curtains also available). Cleanroom-Grade Vinyl is non-particulating and low outgassing. Static-Dissipative Vinyl is manufactured with permanent built-in static inhibitors that will not wear off. Non-outgassing Panels are made from inherently staticdissipative polyurethane that provides permanent, humidityindependent ESD protection for sensitive manufacturing conditions. Polyurethane contains no plasticizer, making it non-outgassing. Softwall panels and strip shields attach to the support frame by means of a unique noncontaminating Grip-Track mounting system that eliminates cracks and seams where germs or particles can collect. Selecting the proper panel length

All softwall cleanrooms require some gap between the curtain and the floor to allow air to escape. If this gap is too narrow to accommodate the flow of air generated by the ceiling filter fans, then curtains and strips will billow outward. If it is too big, the cleanroom will not maintain adequate positive pressure. In general this formula helps you determine how long the curtains should be:
Gap between curtain and oor = Total surface area of lters in ceiling grid Perimeter of cleanroom
Strip Doors
Strip shields can be ordered in convenient widths to create access doors for softwall or hardwall cleanrooms. By alternating strips of clear vinyl with frosted vinyl, you eliminate both sticking and air gaps, creating entrances that are cleaner and easier to walk through. Note: Strip doors are free-hangingstandard installations do not include attachment of the two sides to adjacent curtains or frame. For a 16' x 16' cleanroom with 7 ceiling filter fans, this gap should be about 10.5" (56 sq. ft. of filter 64 ft. (perimeter) = .875 ft. gap). This is exactly the gap produced when a 6' curtain is installed on a standard cleanroom frame, since the curtain bead is mounted about 1.5" below the filter face (6'10.5" above the floor). If the same cleanroom included casters, which raise the cleanroom about 7", then a 6'6" curtain would be appropriate. Refer to curtain ordering chart on the following pages to select the curtain height for your application. The plastic curtain material is easy to trim to the exact size you require.

Ordering Guide
Select the height and material desired for flexible curtain panels. Pricing is per linear foot. Use quantity to indicate the length in feet of the curtain or strip panel (e.g., quantity 8 = an eight-foot run of material of the specified height). Grip-Track mounting is standard; specify any other desired mounting system (see top of facing page). When ordering with Terras Softwall Cleanroom, provide a drawing that shows the nominal dimensions and floor plan of your cleanroom. If you select curtain panels, indicate the location and width of any desired access door. Based on your drawing, Terra will configure the optimal curtain placement. On a standard basis, an access door, made of alternating clear/frosted strip shields of the curtain panel material specified, will be installed at the location you indicate. Please note these construction details: Standard curtains come in 4-foot long panels, which are mounted to create the run specified. Corners are notched to ensure a snug fit against frame corners. Adjacent panels overlap by 6", which generally provides an adequate air barrier.

How Clean is Clean? Guidelines for FFU Selection

Class 1 and Class 10 applications require near-100% ceiling coverage of filter/ fan units (FFUs), producing a laminar flow of clean air traveling downward at a velocity of about 90 feet/minute (measured 6" below the filter face). This design ensures a positive pressure inside the cleanroom, which blocks the influx of contaminants and guarantees swift removal of particles generated by people or process equipment. For less critical contamination requirements, experts correlate ventilation efficiency (i.e., the ability to remove contaminants and meet a cleanliness standard) with both the velocity of filtered air passing through the room and also

Each HVAC unit is mounted to a Vertical Air Return (VAR), which includes a plenum chamber mounted to the side of the cleanroom. This structure (polypropylene or steel, depending on room design) draws air from the cleanroom into the HVAC module and then directs cooled air upward to the cleanroom ceiling, where it enters either a ceiling plenum or duct manifold (see illustrations below). On BioSafe Cleanrooms, return air is directed to the HVAC unit via ducts inside the BioSafe panels (see page 11). An adjustable baffle mounted outside the cleanroom lets you adjust the percentage of fresh make-up air. A Terra application engineer will help select the HVAC module(s) appropriate to your cleanroom, based on room size, number of FFUs, and heat load. Typically, supplemental Vertical Air Returns are required to recirculate a portion of the cooled cleanroom air through ceiling FFUs. Select FFU Connect Packs to connect return ducts to individual FFUs.

High-Volume Exhaust Fans

Softwall or Hardwall Designs Terras softwall clean room features flexible cleanroom vinyl curtains that hang from a quick-install GripTrack along the outside perimeter. Curtains come in 4'-wide lengths and hang to about 3" above floor level. A 4'-wide strip shield entry is provided into the antechamber. Hardwall designs are available with either rigid acrylic or static-dissipative PVC panels. Dissipative PVC offers superior resistance to chemicals, including alcohol and most germicides. By dissipating surface static charges that attract and hold particles, it also enhances contamination control. Barrier Walls and Panels

These versatile panels provide an economical way to divide a cleanroom or laboratory in multiple cleanliness zones or to create a dust-free area in an otherwise unclassified work space. Terras modular cleanroom panels serve as barrier walls that enable modification of existing space to multiple purposes. Softwall Strips and Panels These anti-static vinyl panels keep contaminants in or out. Use them as an economical dust containment enclosure for process equipment. In conjunction with ceiling-mounted fan/filter modules, they can also create a dust-free clean zonean economical clean room inside a conventional office space. Installing Your Pass-Through Chamber All Terra Pass-Through Chambers include two sets of stainless steel mounting brackets, which require 0.25" clearance between the wall cut-out and the chamber. Standard mounting allows 2" of the chamber to protrude on the cleanroom side, with the remainder of the chamber resting on the wall and protruding to the dirty side. The cleanroom side bracket is welded in place, and the other bracket is bolted to the opposite side of the wall. Support braces are recommended for chambers with a depth 36", or for chambers with heavy loads.

UV Sterilization Modules
Terra provides several UV sterilization solutions (254 or 365nm) to meet specific requirements, including timed sterilization cycles with interlocked doors. Call to discuss your specications! A. BioSafe Stainless Steel Pass-Through Chambers Optimized for Aseptic Biological and Pharmaceutical Requirements These unique Pass-Throughs feature all-continuous-seam welds with radius corners to produce ultra-clean, smooth internal surfaces that wipe down quickly and easily. Their no-lip design eliminates clearance restrictions and gives you full use of the chamber interior. This design simplifies the transfer of materials into and out of the cleanroom or laboratory. All components of these chambers have been engineered to optimize cleanliness and simplify disinfection. The doors feature inset polyurethane, a durable, chemically resistant, non-contaminating elastomer, which seals against the raised edge along the chamber perimeter. This bioseal eliminates the need for adhesive gaskets that can creep, crack and outgas. Doors are available with and without tempered glass viewing windows. Both styles can be easily removed after pass-through installation, allowing you to interchange models. They are also designed to be steam sterilized to help maintain an aseptic environment.
Unique Pass-Through Interlock Eliminates CrossContamination The rugged interlock mechanism prevents the handle and latch of either door from moving when the opposing door is open, protecting your cleanroom or laboratory from contamination during material transfer. The rugged latch pins ensure that an interlocked door cannot be forced open. The isolated interlock design further optimizes cleanliness. Because the mechanism is mounted in its own, narrow-profile housing, the inside of the pass-through chamber itself remains unobstructed and easy to sterilize. All models include two sets of stainless steel mounting brackets, which help support the chamber and cover the wall cut-out. Standard configuration is a mounting bracket welded 2" from the front of the chamber on the clean side; the remaining bracket is bolted to the wall on the dirty side of the wall and fits tightly against the chamber. This design accommodates walls of varying thicknesses and ensures minimal intrusion into valuable cleanroom space. Specify other desired bracket location when ordering.
Removable racks allow easy cleaning and sterilization
Removable Rack and Shelf System Simplifies Cleaning All models are available with removable stainless steel racks that accommodate sliding stainless steel shelves. Racks are easy to remove or retrofit into existing cabinets. Each side panel features a locking mechanism at each corner that fixes the unit in place with the turn of a screw. To clean or sterilize the chamber, you simply remove shelves and loosen these screws to remove the rack panels. The positioning system requires no modification to the chamber interior, so it remains ultra-smooth and easy to sterilize. Once racks and shelves are cleaned, they can be reinstalled in a matter of seconds. See next page for ordering information.

This unique, space-saving pass-through features dual-side segmented doors that automatically roll up and down at the push of a PLC control pad. Pass-Through Air Shower

These Pass-Through Air Showers offer an effective way to remove surface-deposited particles on carts as you transfer them into the clean room. Adjustable nozzles provide concentrated streams of high-velocity HEPA-filtered air that lifts off contaminants, which are purged through vents along the bottom of the chamber. Nozzles are arranged uniformly on walls to ensure effective distribution of filtered air. The closed-loop circulation design directs contaminated air downward through grills and hollow walls of the Air Shower and back to the filter, which removes 99.99% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns. Interlocking doors prevent unnecessary contamination inflow and thereby prevent cross-contamination of the cleanroom. They automatically release in the event of a power failure. Clean, Versatile Construction

The modular design of the ValuLine Air Shower allows simple, versatile integration of the unit into Terras standard Hardwall Modular Cleanrooms. The top and bottom steel supports interlock into the cleanroom frame structure, allowing positioning either outside or inside the enclosure at any point along the cleanroom perimeter. The unit can also be installed along an internal cleanroom wall to provide an air lock between rooms of differing cleanliness classifications. In this application, users have the option of operating the air shower or not, depending on cleanroom protocol. Double-wall polypropylene construction with 100% sealed seams ensures clean operation and resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including most acids and cleaning formulations.
