Week 3 Lesson: 4 Day: 2 Objective: Students will independently use the information for the shared Google doc

created and compiled the previous day. Students will use this information to create their own short poem or lyrics about their life cycle. Content Standards: Common Core standards: RI.2.3 Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text. W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. W.2.6 With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. SL.2.5 Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings. SL.2.6 Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification. (See grade 2 Language standards 1 and 3 for specific expectations.) Smart Board Instructional Directions: 1. Explain to students they will be using the information compiled on their life cycle the previous day to create a poem or lyrics. 2. Show them examples of what a poem or song lyrics look like to give them an idea of the direction they need to go in before beginning writing. Show them examples of simple poems, and explain to them they dont have to rhyme. Then talk to them about some of their favorite songs. Select a few students to recite some of the lyrics from their favorite song. Write them up on the smart board and explain how a song or poem can either give factual information or tell a story. 3. Leave the example up on the smart board for the students to reference. 4. Tell the students they will be using the information for the shared Google doc and any other information they have found on the life cycle to being writing a poem or song lyrics that revolves around their life cycle. 5. Allow student to work independently to begin creating an outline using a new Google doc, of what they want to include in their poem or lyrics. 6. Walk around and work with students to make sure they are on the right track.
