ADI Achieves Higher Levels of Integration for Isolated Industrial Automation Applications
The ADM2587E/ADM2582E transceivers integrate a line driver, line receiver, oscillator, rectier, regulator, and transformers into a single chip that isolates both the data and power lines. The transceivers SMT package improves manufacturability by allowing system OEMs to mount the device using fully automated production tools, reducing manufacturing steps and improving mechanical performance. Whats more, the small footprint frees up circuit board space for other system functions. This highly integrated device provides a robust communications interface with isolated power for use in harsh industrial and instrumentation environments. The ADM2587E/ADM2582E transceivers are the rst surface-mount RS-485/RS-422 transceivers to feature full isolation of both the data and power lines, incorporating ADIs well known iCoupler and isoPower isolation technologies. With a 2.5 kV isolation rating, the new RS-485/RS-422 transceivers comply with industry-standard isolation regulations, including UL1577 and DIN VDE 0884-10, ensuring they will meet the robustness levels required in applications such as programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, motor control, building control systems, industrial eldbuses (Modbus, BACnet INTERBUS, etc.), and telecom equipment. The device is powered by a single 5 V or 3.3 V supply realizing a fully isolated RS-485 solution. The ADM2587E provides a slew-rate limited data rate of 500 kbps, and the ADM2582E is suitable for high speed systems to a data rate of 16 Mbps.
