Many English speakers eat their dinner early in comparison to the rest of the world. Most dine between 6 and 8 oclock in the evening. In the United States, the evening meal is called dinner or supper. In the United Kingdom and Australia it is also called supper, dinner or tea. If a British or Australian friend invites you to tea, you might be served an evening meal!
