Its click it or ticket time again, so buckle up if you take to Texas roadways over the long Memorial Day weekend. The Texas Department of Transportation is conducting its 10th annual campaign to remind motorists to wear their seatbelts. Recent changes to the saf belt law, enacted in 2009, states safety require all passengers to be buckled in, including adults in the backseat. The
new law also requires that children r 4 f feet, 9 under the age of eight or under inches tall be in a booster seat. Statistics indicate the law will help prevent a sizable number of traffic cf fatalities in Texas. More than 3,000 people died in vehicular collisions in the state in 2009, and just under half of them were not wearing seatbelts. According to TxDOT, buckling up reduces the risk of a f fatal injury in an accident by 45 percent.
Jimmy Morgan with the Texas Department of Public Safety said law enforcement officers will be out in force tf for dangerous drivers and on the lookout this weekend. Were always looking for seatbelts, aggressive drivers and drivers who have been drinking, Morgan said. Those are the main ones we are picking out, because they could have accidents and were trying to save lives.
