Matilda Little 3/10/2014

Academic Achievement The Wechsler Individualized Achievement Test- Third Edition (WIAT-III) was administered to Matilda Little on February 27, 2014 by Laurie B. Teague the Education Specialist. Matilda was in good spirits during the three days of testing, and persevered during each section. She was joyful from the moment I picked her up from class to the moment she left the resource room. Matilda highlighted each section she completed which gave her a sense of completion/success. She stayed focused throughout our testing time together even when section seemed more difficult for her. Matilda showed slight frustration during Reading Comprehension and the Oral Reading Fluency subtest. She stated the first grade passages were too difficult and at one portion she seemed to tear up. She consistently read A for I in the beginning of the paragraph, and then created her own word while she attempted to read the first few lines of the passage. During the Reading Comprehension subset she pointed to letters and would ask for me to tell her the sound. The Sentence Combining subset required Matilda to read the sentences and write one sentence combing the two. The scoring manual asks three essential questions, if she passes the questions then the test administrator can score semantics, grammar, and mechanics. Matilda did not pass the three essential questions and was scored a zero on each sentence. The subset on Sentence Building asked to write one sentence with the specific word provided. Once again, the scoring manual has three essential questions to pass before the test administrator can give credit to each sentence. Matilda did not pass the essential question portion, and three of the sentences she placed the word within another word. One sentence was not attempted, and three were fragment sentences. Mathematics: Matilda makes some errors in her addition and subtraction equations by switching the operation (+/-). Spelling: Matilda needs to work on her single consonants, VCE syllables, and single short vowels.
