hospitality

10 years 2002-2012 7 000 trained managers

Ten years of teaching and practice of design hotels as professor of technical planning, restaurant concepts, design and facility management at EHL (Ecole htelire de Lausanne, 2002-2012, www.ehl.ch) were used to develop a general planning theory of large and small hotel projects. The hotel seen as a system requires an approach to its suitability to the market (the type of customer) to the destination (the site of implantation), its life cycle (sustainable development) and financial characteristics (a value real estate investment flexibility or functional retraining, its evolution). During these ten years of teaching and consulting at all levels (learning courses bachelor, master courses, dissertations, and expertise with the company Lausanne Hospitality Consulting), hundreds of hotels construction case studies have been addressed and resolved.

Owner consulting

Study groups examine projects between hospitality students, architects and clients (here a family office wanting to build a Motel).

large projects

Working with general contractors reform the position of the architect. Agents of change become actors in the creative solutions in the planning and construction process. Openness, meeting deadlines, addressing synthesis problems and progressive spirit in mastering the complex project. This is a new business in the Swiss planning and construction industry.

Works in progress now (2013).

industry services

Good design in a work structure must minimize the effort and facilitate productive activity. Flexible schemes, they must also include modularity, and an evolutionary factors. Whether it is in an industrial park or intensive services such as catering, this new vision generates efficiency. Finally the simplest constructive choices are the best. Lightweight roof, carrying long-range structure, use of existing spaces in the production process or imagine next steps of buildings life cycles or renovations.

site planning

The square of the success invented by Antoine Wasserfallen and published in his PhD thesis in 1999 features exactly the synergic combination of interests. No government: no framework conditions, investors without any infrastructure funding. And one must always ask who are the customers of the proposed project. Those angles arranged one after the other, allow the correct implementation of such projects.

renovations ancient villas

Interventions in existing buildings: in Switzerland many families possess houses that need to be renovated. For members of teaching staff, it is difficult to find an architect who holds a trustful dialogue with them before taking decisions. This dialogue is very important, and alternate schemes are all carefully evaluated before the ultimate decisions are made, particularly in a family context; hence this process that needs to be strong may seem long in the relationship between the client (owner) and the architect. The architectural results are also very good, level of publication in a professional journals of architecture.

historic mansions realizations

Family and heritage are very important issues in Europe and Switzerland. Renovating heritage is a life project in the long term for a property that has a history in itself and it is far from simple. Architectural strategy must be carefully calibrated. The balance between family and tactical needs of architectural choices, and assuming the dialogue with the authorities and services of heritage protection. With heart, the owners and the architect, contractors must contribute to the history of the life of the building, which will be transmitted to the next home owner, member of the family or not ...

interdisciplinarity

Antoine Wasserfallen in 2011 was a member of the working group of the National BIM SIA (Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects). He was the only Swiss Romand member. Ten years of teaching and practice of facility management at Ecole htelire de Lausanne (EHL) have allowed for him to solve the problem of creation of value chains and optimization in hospitality buildings. The philosophy and the "modus operandi" of those projects is based the "systems engineering", that is to say, a collection of macro-modules of expertise re-assembled in order to realize new ideas. It is an innovative re-configuration of existing knowledge, but impossible to realize or understand change. So it is easy for others to understand what the innovative proposal covers.

exhibition design

The design exhibition was a parallel activity to teaching, either during Ecole Polytechnique Fdrale de Lausanne (EPFL) or Ecole htelire de Lausanne (EHL) activities or in association with professional contexts (cooperative social IN3 research, Pec artist and creator of Franche-Comt). Projects in 2013 include the integration of augmented reality in museum settings (do better with existing motivate the public to return to cultural institutions) or for interactive catalogs & design exhibitions. The new meta-tools IT integrators are used in their most contemporary forms (automated synthesis, layout and automated forms, use of large databases, working in real time, changes in real time). Recognition of new businesses in the new century.
