Splicing

Splicing adds to the congestion. 1" spacing is generally required to allow the 3/4" aggregate to pass down through the upper and lower mats. This mat is made up of #7's @ 4" each way. Because the cross-section of reinforcing bar is oblong and with lugs, about 1" to 1 1/8" of space is required to accomodate the bar.
