Zachary Rogers As society becomes increasingly reliant on technology, the vast advancements continue to expand, but it is these same technological novelties that detract from personal and professional relationships. Although there is no denying the enrichment these advancements have brought, we must still recognize the importance of human interplay and the tremendous influence individual actions continue to have in shaping society. I am applying to the Program in Philosophy, Politics & Economy (PPE) because it is the perfect combination of disciplines providing me the skills to continue to pursue my strong interest in economics while simultaneously broadening my background in philosophy and politics for a comprehensive foundation. Having taken courses across all three departments, I can say with confidence that they are by far my favorite offered by LSA. Whether it is Immanuel Kants theories or even just the United States Constitution, I find myself passionately engaged in heated discussions. What sets these courses apart are the critical lens we are taught to evaluate theories and history with. This unique toolset of seeing the successes and failures of past economies and governments helps to establish the framework for myself, as well as other students, to better analyze future problems. I am eager to continue pursuing the interdisciplinary concentration of PPE not only because of the amazing professors and courses, but also due to genuine interest. Along with the detriment of interpersonal relationships due to the advancement of technology, is the notion of learning because of pure intellectual curiosity. Many college students today pick courses in order to craft their resumes for future employers. Personally, I rather enjoy studying political game theory, the philosophy behind government actions, as well as anticipating the future responses to political corruption or social movements. These interests have been inspired by philosophers, revolutionaries, and the like, but most of all, my own personal life experiences. It has taught me that one of the most crucial aspects for a successful society is understanding human behavior through all facets of interpretation and analysis. The future has much to bestow upon us, but with such a unique concentration in PPE, I know that it will cater to any interests I have yet to discover. The opportunity to engage in an interdisciplinary curriculum, built on a foundation of analytical rigor and critical reasoning allows me to integrate all my current passions, and study the relationships of humans, government, political processes, as well as market and trade dynamics. Regardless of the profession I ultimately pursue in the future, I genuinely believe that the unique set of skills gained from PPE provides me with best foundation to live a successful and meaningful life.
