thought they were more superior than others. For example, the British thought of themselves as more superior than the Indians and as a result they controlled India and colonized India. The British treated the Indian people unjustly, as a result the Indian people fought for freedom. Ultimately, they won the fight, but not without consequences. The consequences of the actions also came with many lessons to be learned from them. The Indian people demanded freedom from this injustice and many other injustices they were facing. The Indian movement toward freedom for women. The movement would changed Indian peoples lives forever. People who were shy learned how to be loud. People who shivered in fear learned how to gain courage and became leaders. People who liked to stay to themselves learned how to cooperate and work well with others. The campaign for freedom in India made it possible for people lives to change. One very important way peoples lives were changed was learning how important it is to include women and give them a chance to lead. In the past women in India were seen as some kind of prize, an object, or something to never be taken seriously. On the other hand there are many examples of how women in India became leaders in the movement for freedom, but some are more noticeable than others. As a matter of fact a fifteen year old girl led a 500 strong march to a police station. This is a great step toward how the movement affect people lives. In the past, she could have been a quiet girl who kept to herself, but when she saw what was happening she had to be a part of the action. It is amazing how people listened to a girl and followed her

willingly. It was also inspiring how young she was because most adults dont listen or take kids seriously. Thus, we see that men gave women a chance to lead. Women were a part of everything, such as leading the Salt March. Which wouldnt have been so successful without the leadership of women. The Salt March was a campaign like the British Tea Party. It was to protest against the taxation on salt. The campaign gave women an opportunity to lead. In the article, Indian Woman in the Indian Independence Movement: The Salt Protest of 1930 it says, On that memorable day thousands of women strode down like proud warriors Women young and old, rich and poor came out tumbling out in their hundreds and thousands, shaking off the traditional shackles that had held them so long. This showed that Salt March was mostly marched by women because there is not a single word suggesting men. They worked next to men and fought as one, a whole, a community. They were no longer treated as an an object, but as a person. They were as important as men. Some people might argue that women in India were as important as men even before the event. If that was true, people would have heard of women in power. It wouldnt have been so surprising when the women came out for the Salt March, because the Salt March wouldnt have been the first time that women have done something as inspiring and amazing. So in reality, women werent seen as important as men before the event. Thus, one of the effects of the Indian movement for freedom, was to change womens lives for the better. Women were leaders, not followers, when the Indian Freedom Movement happened. The world help contribute to the downfall of people who had power in India. Through social media, the world was able to see how the people in power were treating the indigenous people. To try to keep the people in power looking good, they didnt slaughter as many protesters as they did before the world got involved. The reason why the people in power wanted

themselves to look good is because they wanted a good reputation. A good reputation was keyed to their success because then other countries would do business with them. So when the people in power let the protests happen, the protesters went all out. The people in power were unable to control the protesters. Eventually the protesters gain the power in India. In conclusion, we see that without the worlds help that protesters might not have been so successful in diminishing power in India. Different events caused the people who had power to lose it. One example of people in power treating their neighbors of lower class as equals was in the Untouchable Campaign. The Untouchable Campaign was a protest where people of lower class protested to use essential needs that were only allowed to people in power. Some of these items were bathroom, stores and streets. The Campaign changed peoples power. Before the Untouchable Campaign people who had power, their power was untest and wasnt questioned. After the Campaign it sparked a revolution in all of the lower classmen. The lower classmen started to ignore the people in power and started to take control. In conclusion, people in power began to lose their power through Campaigns. The upperclassmen were being ignored and the lower classmen began to take lead. The India movement had lessons to be learned. One of these lessons is that it is important to stand up for what you believe. The Indian people made it obvious that they wouldnt stop fighting because they cared for the cause they were fighting for. The Indian people showed this by how much effort they put into it. If the Indian people didnt care for what they were fighting for, why do it at all. Even when the police were gunning down Indians, they didnt give up. They would react by setting up more protest. India won because they cared for what they were fighting for, unlike the British where they only wanted the rich resources that came with India. In conclusion, India won because they wanted and stood up for what they believed in, freedom.

Indias event toward freedom had many lessons. One of these lessons is that it important not to give into fear. This lesson is constantly shown in the event. One example of this is Suu Kyis protest. Suu was headed to a polluted area to talk to the public. She was confronted by the police. The police warned Suu if she kept walking forward, that they would shoot her. She kept walking, Suu didnt give into the fear of being killed because what she had to say to public. The police were shock and speechless when they saw her walking. When Suu was right in front of the police, they were so moved by what she did. The police moved out of her way. Some people might argue that the major lesson that could be learn from India movement is learning when to use violence. Even though that is a very important lesson, dont give into fear are the lessons is the most importance because it shown is the most in the movement for Indias freedom. For example people would constantly protest even though they were being arrested and shot at. The protesters never gave into the fear that they might die. Thus we see that one lesson that is of the upmost importance is not giving into the fear. In conclusion, India wouldnt be such a wonderful and glorious country today, if they didnt fight for their freedom, but there were things they had to do to get their freedom. Some of those things were to include women, and give them an opportunity to lead, and take the power away from the powerful, so they can learn how to be normal people. There nothing wrong with being normal. There were also lessons that could be learned from the movement, such as learning how not to give into fear, and give everything a shot. This could be used almost anywhere at anytime. For example, for U.S teens, a huge majority of them give into fear about trying new things today, such as trying a new sport, learning something uncommon, or applying for college. They wouldnt try these things because they are afraid of what people will think of them. If they were to never try any of these things, they would never learn if they are actually good at it or if

they like it. They give into fear, of what their friends will think of them, but a real friend wont discourage a person from trying new things; they would do the opposite, they would encourage them. They would do this because they would know that trying something new could only benefit them. If the fifteen-year-old girl who led the 500 person march gave into fear or didnt try for protest, then she would have never known what she was capable of. People believed in her; they followed her. If she gave into fear of what might happen to her, she would always be living in her own shadow. Thus, we see that all the things India did to get their freedom, can also be used by ordinary people in everyday life to fight for injustices that they believe are unfair. Grade: A- (plus honors = A)
