LESSON PLAN

Author: Veronica Fattori Course: 3rd Course Basic Secondary. Level: A2. Topic: Narrative Tenses. Sub topics: Descriptive adjectives. Verb To be in the past. Past simple, past continuous and past perfect tenses. Regular and Irregular verbs.
Strategies: o Predicting information. o Connecting information you hear/watch with paratextual information. o Listening/watching for specific information to contrast/compare it with the data the listener has already predictied.

Aims: In this lesson, students will develop the ability and knowledge necessary to: Increase vocabulary. Infere data through listening and watching. Retell the true story. Have a contact with authentic material.

INTRODUCTION: Before watching the video. Activity 1: Time: 10 minutes. The teacher divides the whole class into 6 groups of 5 students each. Then, the teacher plays the title of the video. The Tale of Mr. Morton In the group the members of each one have to predict what his story/tale is about. In their drawings they have to show what Mr. Morton looks like and they have to consider personal information about him, too. The teacher delivers some colour cardboards to each group and they have to make some drawings about his story.

Activity 2:

Time: 15-20 minutes. 1. The teacher asks her students to go to the front of the class, group by group, to tell their own Mr. Mortons new story. 2. Then some students come at the front, stick their posters and tell the story to the rest of the class. They are asked for using narrative tenses according to their previous knowledge. 3. After their retelling, the posters are left on the board as a reference. Watching/listening to the video. Activity 3: Time: 3.13 minutes The teacher explains that they are going to watch and listen to the video to know Mr. Morton real story, and she hands out a photocopy with the following questions to be answered and completed while watching:

Mr. Morton What is he like?

What does he look like? What did he do at the beginning?

What did he tell to his cat? What was the ladys name? What did he grow for her? What did he do in the middle of the story? What did he write? Guess what happened at the end

Students have to read the chart that they have to complete with some information from the video. Students watch and listen to the video and complete. Activity 5: Time: 6 minutes. Students watch the video again and check their answers in groups, sharing information. Activity 6: Time: 10 minutes. 1. Students have to complete the last item in the chart. There, they have to predict the end of the story. 2. Group by group, they will share their predictions, describing what happened at the end of the video. 3. Students watch the video again but this time they are asked to check if the were right or wrong in their predictions about how the story ended. By their answers, they have to

tell the rest of the class what they predicted and if they were right or wrong about it.

Activity 7: Time: 20 minutes. After that, students have to watch the video again, adding details to the chart. Then, they are asked to pick up their own posters from the board and retell Mr. Mortons real story, using the information they have in the chart. After the video: Time: 20-25 minutes. Students are asked to write Mr. Mortons love story individually, using narrative tenses, and verbs and ideas taken from the video. Before leaving the classroom the teacher will ask if they enjoy the activity and the video and how they felt after knowing his story.
