Facility Management Systems

We help utilities to build and maintain reliable power system installations safely and efficiently. ABB's facility management engineering includes the following systems: Cable and cable trays Communication and telephones Paging and loudspeakers Fire detection and fire fighting Lighting & power distribution Security and video Central clock Allowing ABB to integrate facility management into the power plant design provides your operating and service staff with a consistent and logical organization of sub systems, which expedite operation and service activity during your plant lifetime.

Thousands of kilometres of cables and trays are required for a typical power plant, incineration plant, water pumping stations and similar industrial application. If your ICE or building installation or electrical system suppliers are also providing independently their own HV-, MV- and LV- power and control cables and cable trays then definitely you will benefit from a systematicand common approach to your plant cabling system from one hand. This systematic approach can save your service department time and money in future years, when cable replacement or repair is required. Designing a cabling and tray concept that distinguishes between low and medium voltage cabling not only in function, but also in its ability to be traced, identified and serviced is where a single source supplier can develop a system, which fulfils the service and the operational needs of your plant in one economical solution. We want to be your partner for this task. You can trust us.

Cable and Trays

The routing of cables in complex industrial installations, power plants and switching stations requires a great deal of work and experience on the part of the planner. It involves arranging the cables to give the shortest path between their starting point and destination, while at the same time ensuring that certain combinations do not adversely influence each other. Also, planning of narrow cable trays system leads to higher installation and later service costs, dangerous working conditions and may by mistake leads to bad workmanship. The long term consequences will be higher service time and costs.

ABB offers utility proven communication systems developed by ABB specifically for power plant applications that provide reliable and secure transmission of data and voice signals. Using innovative products integrated into economical solutions ABB can replace multiple communication networks, for example in your power plants and your corporate offices with one single and cost effective communication network with amble data capacity. Fire detection Systems

Business Application Fires can occur even in installations that are protected by structural measures. The fire risk depends among others on the type of installation, the building structure, and the installation components and on the fire load. Fire load corresponds to the theoretical energy that can be released from all flammable material referred to a defined area. Necessary measures should be taken to reduce possibility of fire and to protect life and property in case of fire. Main Features If fire can be detected early and actions to extinguish it are taken quickly and directly, the damages caused by the fire or the measures to extinguish it can be reduced. An important component of preventive fire protection is fire alarm equipment that is automatically or manually activated. Smoke, temperature or optical appearances of flames are the parameters for early detection of fires that actuate the alarm when maximum values are exceeded. These alarms actuate stationary extinguishing systems and also alert the fire department through a central fire alarm system. The design of an automatic fire alarm system should also consider any existing air intake and exhaust systems. In addition to above-mentioned devices an alarm system should include secure power supply from power system or battery and alarm annunciators such as sirens and flashing lights. Customer Benefit A reliable fire alarm system can secure life and property. In our ICE overall design the integration of the fire detecting system and its corresponding interfaces are considered to ensure a reliable and economical power supply system.

Lighting and Power Distribution

Business Application The operation, control, monitoring and maintenance of industrial plants, such as power generation plants, require lighting and energy supply. Measures for emergency cases, such as failure of regular power supply, should also be planned. Main Features Lighting installation for in- and outdoor main and auxiliary components are subject to varied requirements regarding intensity of lighting, limiting glare, colour and colour reproduction. In their lighting calculations, planners have also to consider additional factors to compensate that lights become dirty and deteriorate with age. The energy supply demand is basically calculated from the sum of the connected loads for the individual consumer groups. In most cases, low voltage distributors in form of switch cabinets or distribution boxes are used. During design and equipment selection requirements for maximum safety and reliable operation are considered. Customer Benefit Lighting and power distribution are an integral part of our ICE-Solution to ensure reliable system under safety and economical aspects.
