3ealth care has become one of the most contro"ersial issues in United States of /merica. 4any politicians, humanitarian and socialists ha"e in"ol"ed in the debate of seeking a possible solution to the problem that pre"ails in the insurance sector. 5ut the feasibility of pro"iding e"ery US citizen with a comprehensi"e health care still

looms larger as a nightmare. 6ow the 2uestion that surrounds the mind of e"ery citizen is 78hat would be our future without an ade2uate health care9 +n this research paper + would like to focus on three prior issues that surround the health care industry and to propose a feasible solution to each of them. /t this juncture, + would like to reiterate that the solutions that + plan to propose in this project are not subjecti"e information, rather they are the compilation of the suggestions proposes by the economists across the globe. ,he three problems that + wish to focus in this research paper are: %. ,he problem of Uninsured and the need for an uni"ersal plan '. ,he impracticality of pure go"ernment system and the need for pri"ate( go"ernment mix ). ,he absence of 2uality health care and the need to impro"e the doctor(patient relationship ,he $roblem of Uninsured; ,he number of people de"oid of a comprehensi"e health insurance is increasing year by year in United States. /ffordability, portability and accessibility of the key concerns related to health insurance. 4any are worried about their inability to ha"e an access to an affordable policy and about the spiralling prices of health care policies. / good number of citizens are turned down by the health insurances firms because of their existing health conditions or pre"ious illnesses. / few others are made to sacrifice their policies, whey lose their job or shift jobs. ,hus there pre"ails an uncertainty o"er the health care policies in United States. Statistics come up with an alarming image that really <. million people in United States do not ha"e a health care policy. ,he most disturbing fact is that this figure includes = million children. ,he tragedy does not end by the mere possession of

a health care policy. Statistics re"eal further that almost <& million people do not get timely medical aid, e"en after owning a policy. ,he most common sufferers are the working class. 6early > out of %& uninsured are from working families. ?ne of the major reasons for the sudden collapse of the health insurance sector was the employers@ decision to do away with go"ernment(sponsored health care policies for the employees. 4ost of the /mericans could afford health care in the past only because they were sponsored by the firms, where they work. Aconomic recession forced the employers to discontinue their sponsor o"er healthcare policies for the employees. ,his forced the employees to procure indi"idual policies, which are numerous times costlier than the group insurance policies pro"ided to them by their employers. ,he second factor that added its own share to the existing chaos in the field of healthcare is non(portability. +n our current health care system, the policies are strictly tied to the place of work of the employees. ,hey are made eligible to all the pri"ileges of their policy only while they are in job, as the policy is sponsored by the company. +f one is dumped from job, it leads to the cancelation of his health care policy as well. So the common factors, such as, lea"ing jobs for raising a family, retiring, becoming injured or disabled disturb the benefits of health care polices. +t is indeed a pity to know that health care policies actually follow jobs and not the persons. 8hen depri"ed of the company sponsored insurance policies, the lack of money forces them to lead their li"es without a comprehensi"e healthcare policy. ,he third factor that enhances the number of uninsured is the problem of accessibility. ,he modern pri"ate managed health care plans are profit dri"en. 3ence, the health insurance companies "ery selecti"e in their choice of customers. +nsurance polices are pro"ided instantaneously to the young and energetic. $eople, who ha"e a

prior history of illness or those who are adjudged as probable cases of risks are depri"ed of a policy by these pri"ate firms because of the fear of meeting loses by insuring such cases of risk. ,he re2uest for a policy made by these people is summarily rejected by the insurance firms. ,his leads to a situation that these people are e"en depri"ed of pre"enti"e treatment and medication. Bhildren are the most commonly affected due to the problem of accessibility. Bhildren with prior records are not pro"ided with insurance policies. ,hus, many children are left to suffer from asthma, hearing disorder etc. *urther, this non(committed attitude of the pri"ate companies further doubles up the responsibility of the go"ernment. ,he uninsured use the go"ernment emergency as an alternati"e to sol"e the problems of their basic medical needs. ,his adds to the financial burden of the go"ernment.
