Trinity Kids Fast For Others

n a world where kids so often are characterized as being self-centered, just the opposite was demonstrated at Trinity Church recently as 61 youth in grades 6 12 went without food for 24 hours in order to serve others. The annual B-1 Fast was coordinated by the churchs Family Ministry Team, and brought not only Trinity youth, but also 15 students from 4 other nearby United Methodist churches. The youth gathered at 6:00 on Friday evening, and began a 24 hour period of learning, serving, worshipping and fun. They slept over night at the church, and on Saturday went out in teams to serve others. Those service teams found young people going to nursing homes to visit Senior Citizens, to a local supermarket to buy food for Trinity Lords Pantry, to Newton to serve at a soup kitchen and to the houses of 2 parishioners who were in need of hands and feet in caring for their homes.

A B1 Fast Service Team from Trinity Church.

On Saturday a evening at 5:00 the entire team of 76 youth and over 15 adults gathered for the churchs regular Saturday Night Worship service, which included Holy Communion. Then a dinner was served to break the fast. One of the very positive results of the fast was that each student raised pledges for their hours of fasting, and a total of more than $5,000 was raised. These funds will go to the United Methodist relief effort for victims of Superstorm Sandy, through Trinitys Future with Hope campaign. Commenting on the event Trinity Associate Pastor Don Gebhard commented, I am proud, proud, proud of our students. They found another reason to make a Super Bowl weekend special. Serving, giving and providing for others is what B1 is all about. Information about the churchs student ministry is available on the web site at catchthespirit.org or by calling 908852-3020.

The track team members will be working alongside volunteers from the Area Wilmington Rebuilding Ministry (WARM). Student-athletes will be working on home repair projects for elderly and handicapped citizens in the Wilmington area. According to Waynesburg Head Coach Jason Falvo, the mission trip asks a great deal of the young athletes. We normally work two four hour shifts per day as well as train at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and compete in an invitational meet at Coastal Carolina University on the weekend. Simmons expressed gratitude in being selected to participate in the trip. One of the reasons I wanted to attend a Christian university was to become involved in helping people. There will be a master tent with acoustic jazz; a liquor tent, with jazz and Sinatra-era music; and a grand ballroom area with Top 40/popular music. y name is Lisa Ferreira and I am the mother of surviving twin Cristiano and March of Dimes Team Captain for Team Gabriella Lisa RV003. Gabriella Lisa Ferreira entered this world 12 weeks early via emergency CSection on April 27, 2014. She was in fetal distress and doctors decided this was the best case scenario for her, her twin brother and Lisa. She was born at 1.12 ounces, 12 inches at 4:20PM. She was strong from the beginning. I still remember her little hands pulling on her feeding tube. The nurses described her as 'feisty'. She was doing well. She even gained 1 ounce within the first week! Once her inlet was moved next to her twin brother, Cristiano, he started to get healthier. On the morning of week 2, Gabby developed an infection in her bowel. Within hours, she was getting weaker and weaker. Beautiful Gabriella passed away at 12:55PM on April 25, 2009 due to a lung and bowel infection. Our hearts are aching while our hopes and dreams continue with her brother Cristiano who continued his fight in the NICU for a total of 49 days! Cristiano will be celebrating his 5th Birthday on April 11th. He is a smart, adorable little boy. Please donate or join our team in helping raise our goal of $5000.00. r. Jacinda Hover of Village Family Clinic in Allamuchy Township recently earned her certification in Webster Breach Technique, a specialized program geared towards pregnant women. Dr. Hover, who specializes in womens health care, will be able to use this knowledge particularly to help pregnant women seeking chiropractic care. Webster Breach Technique has become an extremely popular method of treating pregnant women due to its efficacy of reducing low back pain and allowing for optimal baby positioning. The Webster Technique is a sacral adjusting technique that balances the pelvis during pregnancy. An increase in the curvature, or lordosis, of the lumbar spine along with increased production of the hormone relaxin (which relaxes the pelvis ligaments) cause instability in the pelvis and frequently results in sacroiliac dysfunction and associated low

back pain. Chiropractic care can correct sacroiliac dysfunction by restoring normal movement in the joint. The Webster Technique takes it one step further by removing torsion of the ligaments supporting the uterus which reduces tension and allows for an easier pregnancy and delivery. The technique truly benefits both mother and baby, said Dr. Hover, who this past fall joined the office of Dr. James Fedich and Village Family Clinic in Allamuchy Township. "Dr. Hover has a solid grasp on womens health issues in general, and this certification brings her scope of knowledge to yet another level, said Dr. Fedich, owner of Village Family Clinic. "This technique brings another new focus to our services, complementing what we already do here, for both men and women.

Dr. Hover, a graduate of National University of Health Sciences, specializes in womens issues and the care of athletes. She is also is also highly attentive to proper nutrition and how that can help individuals overall health. Village Family Clinic's services focus on helping the patient overcome limitations on their ability to move and perform daily tasks. Physical therapists also work to prevent future loss of mobility by creating personal fitness programs for their patients. Village Family Clinic offers services such as Physcial Therapy, Spinal Decompression and Cold Laser, aside from chiropractic care To learn more about Dr. Jacinda Hover, DC and Village Family Clinic visit www.allamuchyfamilyclinic.com or call 908-813-8200.

n January, the Allamuchy Township Volunteer Fire Department held an Ice Rescue Drill on Allamuchy Pond with the Green Township Fire Department and the Allamuchy-Green First Aid Squad. Firefighters and rescue personnel met at the Allamuchy Firehouse for a briefing to discuss the equipment that is required for ice rescues, the type of rescues they were going to conduct, and several new techniques for rescuing someone who may have fallen through the ice. As temperatures rose to warming 16 degrees, firefighters and rescue personnel made their way over to the pond to break through the ice and begin their training.

Allamuchy Fire Conducts Ice Rescue Drill

Firefighters who participated in the ice training learned how to enter the icy water properly, how to self-extricate themselves, techniques on rescuing victims who are conscious and unconscious, and how a rescue sled works. Firefighters and Rescue personnel who worked the safety lines from land learned what it takes to pull the ice rescuer and victim to safety, hand signals, and the importance of getting both the victim and rescuer to a warming shelter immediately. The Allamuchy Ladies Auxiliary assisted greatly, as they provided a heated shelter, coffee, and food for the drill participants.

ver 33 million people in the United States participate in fantasy baseball and/or football leagues; these leagues are a two billion dollar per year industry. Some take their participation in such fantasy leagues more seriously than others, suspending reality as they try to fulfill their dreams of serving as a major league owner or General Manager. For Jeff Goldstein, however, this is not just a game; participation in the league takes over his life. His obsession with winning his fantasy league, and its $150,000 prize, consumes his every thought and threatens his relationship with his girlfriend, his friends, and his job. How far will Jeff go in his desire to win the league? What actions will he take, or ask others to take, as he struggles to separate fantasy from reality? been doing just that, and so they are indeed going to Carnegie Hall. The teenage bell choir, who participate regularly in the traditional worship service of the church, have been invited to participate in a concert on the stage of the legendary New York City venue. On October 30th they will accompany the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland, a 120 member youth orchestra comprised of young people from both North and South Ireland. In addition a youth bell choir from St. Bridgid School in New York City will participate. The Trinity Ringers are one of 4 English handbell choirs at Trinity Church, including a childrens choir and 2 adult choirs. Members of the T Rs are in grades 7-12 and rehearse weekly for the sacred music they provide in worship every few weeks. The leader of the choir is Jill Fedon, who grew up at Trinity, and has directed the handbell ministry for 13 years. Jill was herself a member of the Trinity Ringers choir when in high school, and now is an early childhood music teacher in Gill St. Bernard School in Gladstone. She will soon complete her Masters of Church Music degree from Concordia University in Wisconsin. Jill has had two pieces of handbell music published.

The English Handbell ministry of Trinity Church is over 40 years old, and features 5 octaves of Schulmerich bells, 2 octaves of Malmark bells and 3 octaves of Malmark hand chimes. In conjunction with the invitation to Carnegie Hall the Trinity Ringers will participate in an all-day Arts Festival at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, Pa. Years ago this same choir was invited to ring at the White House for a Christmas open house during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Commenting on the choirs invitation to play at Carnegie Hall, Senior Pastor Dr Frank Fowler said, This is of course an incredible honor for our young people and director Jill Fedon in particular. Jill brings the highest level of music professionalism to our ministry, combined with a great spiritual maturity. We are blessed to have her serving with us and leading our children and adults. The church plans to organize a bus or two to go to the October concert. Trinity Church is located at 213 Main Street in Hackettstown, NJ. Meet Max the Husky from Eleventh Hour Rescue. One dog for sure who is ready for this Arctic Cold. True to the breed, and although he is past the puppy stage, Max the Husky is a busy guy always on the move and would be best suited in a home with an active lifestyle and maybe a fenced in yard too. He is a very handsome dog with beautiful eyes and a lovely, gorgeous full coat. He is friendly and outgoing and like most Huskies is ready and willing to tell you verbally whats on his mind. He is not good with small dogs but will get along with dogs his size and larger. To read more about Max the Husky, to see all of the adoptable pets, and to see the upcoming events, please visit: www.ehrdogs.org or call: 973-664-0865.

This is Perry...Cuteness Alert!! Perry is a good natured puppy about 6 months old & he weighs about 25-30 pounds. He has a unique brown/black merle/brindle and white coat. He is a very handsome fellow! Perry is happy living in a foster home in NJ after being rescued from a high kill shelter in NC. This is what his foster family says about Perry...."We nicknamed Perry "Mr Cuddles"! He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. He loves playing in the snow and then cuddling on the sofa and taking a nap. Perry is having fun playing with our dogs & he enjoys playing with balls and exploring in the yard. Perry does this really cute thing where he runs to the toy box and pulls everything out to play! It's just so cute! Perry is a playful puppy but he can also be super mellow. He is food motivated so he is easy to train & he is doing great with house training." Perry is enjoying his foster home, but he is eagar to find a family of his own to shower with affection. Do you have a furever home for him? If you have a furever home for this pet, please e-mail FureverHomeRescue@att.net and request an adoption application. To see more photos of Perry or to see other rescue pups, please go to www.FHDR.petfinder.com.

Kevin is a one year beautiful black and white cat. He has a "tear drop" nose. I always think of it as a tear as he came to our shelter when his family could no longer keep him. It seems his heart was broken when he was left in an animal shelter. Kevin is all vetted, combo tested and vaccinated. He is very gentle. He loves company and will be a great companion and addition to a loving home. For more information, contact Claudine at 973-886-1485 or Doggie54@optonline.net or stop by and meet Kevin at the Randolph Pound. We also offer "fostering a pet with the adoption to adopt." Political newspaper cartoons were also popular in the Victorian era where the light bulb represented the bright inventions of Edison. This bright invention soon morphed into the bright idea. Although photographs were available in 1879, they were not commonly used in newspapers. Drawings were much cheaper to print and produced more legible imagery from these late 19th Century printing presses. It is easy to see how the illustrators light bulb was positioned above the inventors head. This newspaper press layout would incidentally provide that eureka moment to connect a thinking and bright idea icon to the light bulb. Edisons bright idea bulb became the accepted icon throughout the world that expanded into three centuries. Todays 21st century emoticons include the idea incandescent light bulb image. Unfortunately, this icon may soon fade away from emoticon memory. The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) law signed in 2007 is phasing out Edisons icon of 20th century life- our familiar incandescent light bulb. Although the bulb proved it could burn long and bright, it was too hot for the energy conscious of the 21st century. The incandescent light bulb, wastes 90 percent of its energy use as heat, not light. Will the new bulbs rearrange our thinking? The old thought is that the human brain uses about 100 Watts of energy enough to light a large standard light bulb. Now from this same data we must envision several CFL (Compact Florescent Light) bulbs in its place. Please visit Thomas Edisons West Orange lab where you can still find an incandescent light bulb. by Michele Guttenberger homas Edisons incandescent light bulb had its first public demonstration on December 31, 1879. The incandescent bulb was not just a new lighting choice for the home; it was a phenomenon that would propel new lifestyles and cultures. It would become the icon of modern day enlightenment. The first public demo of the incandescent light bulb was a milestone event which marked a new era in civilization. It was witnessed by those who were fortunate enough to make the trek to Menlo Park, New Jersey. People gathered from hundreds of miles to view this demonstration. The show stopping performance of this demo was watching an entire building being lit up by these incandescent bulbs. The reaction to the incandescent light bulb was enormous. The light bulb became a non-living celebrity icon. Newspaper illustrators would try to capture the magic of this modern day marvel in 1879 through black and white illustrations. Drawings were drawn and redrawn. Promotional images of the light bulb and its famous inventor would soon appear on souvenirs, glassware and postcards. The celebrity light bulb became the rave of the Victorian era that also was connected to a portrait of

hough Earth Day is synonymous with protecting the environment, the holiday can trace its roots to an environmental disaster that occurred in Southern California in 1969. Over a 10-day period that began on January 28, 1969 just six miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, Calif., roughly 80,000 to 100,000 barrels of crude oil spilled into the Santa Barbara Channel and onto the beaches of Santa Barbara County. Thousands of birds and marine animals, including dolphins, elephant seals and sea lions, were killed as a result of the spill, which at the time was the largest such spill to ever occur in United States waters (it is now the third-largest spill after the Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010 and the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill). Though devastating, the Santa Barbara oil spill proved inspiring to Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, who is today considered the founder of Earth Day. Senator Nelson used the sense of social consciousness that prevailed throughout much of the UnitedStates in 1969 and the outrage at the Santa Barbara oil spill to infuse energy into a growing movement to raise awareness about air and water pollution. His risk paid off, as more than 20 million Americans took to the streets on April, 22, 1970 to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment.
