TROY MAIN STREET PRESENTS COMMUNITY AWARDS AT ITS ANNUAL MEETING


Troy, OH- Troy Main Street, Inc. celebrated 2013 accomplishments and recognized volunteers, partners, and stakeholders at its Annual Meeting on March 11th. The downtown advocacy organization featured the downtown merchants as keynote speaker to a packed house of nearly 120 people. A fifteen-minute video developed by Troy Main Street staff captured a sampling of downtown business testimonials on the impact of the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Stopover. Joe and Laurie Reiser, owners of downtowns Winans Chocolates and Coffee, spoke live about their experience and how it affected their business. Karin Manovich, Executive Director, reviewed the work of the organization which included downtown economic development, marketing, beautification, and revitalization. The downtown saw the addition of 9 new first-floor businesses during the year, with 7 additional businesses slated to open in the next two months. Downtown Troy has seen a net increase of 21 new businesses over the past four years, and currently maintains a 95% occupancy rate for first floor commercial spaces. Marketing efforts for the year yielded national and international exposure with the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Stopover. Feature articles, TV news, social media, websites, blogs, and radio coverage put Troy on the map in unprecedented areas. Troy Main Streets efforts at destination marketing propelled downtown Troy into the local spotlight as well, receiving the designation as Favorite Place to Shop in the region by a Dayton Business Journal survey. Downtown public events organized and managed by Troy Main Street in 2013 included the Downtown Troy Farmers Market, the Summer Concert Series, the Taste of Troy, the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover, the Hometown Holiday/Grand Illumination, the Hometown Halloween, and Sculptures on the Square. Troy Main Street received volunteer support in 2013 of more than 18,000 man hours. The following awards were presented at the Annual Meeting:

Preservation Hero Award-the Masonic Temple The Preservation Hero Award was received by Tim Ray on behalf of the Masonic Temple for their window preservation and restoration project that included restoring 32 historic wood windows and the restoration of six monumental stained glass windows, several of which are attributed to Tiffany. Community Impact Award-Will Harrelson, Carri Walters Will Harrelson and Carri Walters received the Community Impact Awards for their roles in securing over $37,000 in volunteer stipends to local non-profit groups as Legal Counsel (Harrelson) and Co-Volunteer Coordinators (Harrison and Walters) for the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover.
