Production Operations and Facilities Engineering
Module 2.3Exercise 1Solution
Determine the pressure gradient for the following flowing conditions in a vertical well
- Average pressure is 1500 psia
- Average temperature is 180F
- Pipe diameter is 2.992 in
- Gas viscosity of 0.012 cp
- Liquid viscosity of 0.45 cp
- Surface tension of 25 dynes/cm
- Gas superficial velocity of 30 ft/s
- Liquid superficial velocity of 5 ft/s
- Pipe roughness is 0.0006 ft
- Liquid density of 50 lb/ft3
- Gas density of 8 lb/ft3

Answer:

P1
The first step is to go over the Hagendorn and Brown procedure and determine the
variables that are needed and can be directly calculated form the data
Can you identify those variables?

P2
Substituting the data we obtain:

P5

What do we need to do next?

P6

We need to determine CNL
