- Retaining wall 1. Retaining wall design, if it is cantilever the out of plane moment is huge- therefore I have to make it prompted beam. Put a beam at the roof and floor, use microstran and check if the wall can take the out of plane moment and then check the connections and all of the staff Adopt the design from the standard guide and use the example to destailed design the retaininfg wall Use these two example for the detailed design: masonry design p.586- example G:\Nikolas\Documents\Geo\Books\Best\Retaining walls\121371564-retaining-wall.pdf--- really good G:\Nikolas\Documents\Geo\Books\Best\Retaining walls\168090891-Retaining-Walls.pdf also example, p.24 2. Prepare for meeting 3. Stairs 4. Masonry wall, very good note 5.

An alternative rafter-to-column connection is shown in detail (a) of Fig 6.2, which can be used for portal frames where the moment at the rafter-to-column junction is not too severe. The rafter and column have the same section size and are shop-welded with their flanges bevelled to receive complete penetration groove welds. This is a simple and cheap connection and is supplemented by a site-bolted splice some way up the rafter, at a point of reduced bending moment. The location of the splice should be such that the length L1 of the column-rafter component, as appropriate, is within transport limitations. A variation of the rafter site splice is shown in detail (b) where a combination of shop welding and site bolting is used, making for much easier erection. The apex joint is shop-welded. The length L2 of the rafter to the opposite splice should meet transport requirements

Q: 1. See the difference if the will be more pin connections at a frame. I want to see the distribution of the forces. Example is the floor system of 131256. 2. Gsdl 3. See HOW THE RELEASES work in a 2d model. In a frame were I should put and what kind releases

Etabs modelling: Z:\JOBS 13\131206 - Don and Deveron St - Invercargill\ENG\Seismic System - Etabs and lateral ETABS 121231 model

Where my ETABS model stopped I did: - Grid - The reference lines - So I draw the wall - I did the analysis

Doing the analysis I found the shear forces for each wall. There are only forces applied to the first floor because there are no loads at the second floor. I am not sure about that Then I tried to design a panel but I did not the spread sheets and the factors and general the way I had to do it. So, Istarted to read the BRANZ and I have read until one point Also, the mass of the second floor is added to the first because there is not any rigid diaphragm there. And the one force which is the added first and second floor to the centre of mass. 3 .
