professional aims and humanistc values. The architectural studies must be a synthesis of arts, humanites, and sciences grasped through the rigors of intellect and practce, results of which are aesthetcally judged and technically understood. Our commitment to the highest professional and cultural aspiratons is achieved through innovatve pedagogies applied through challenging and research based projects.
School of Architecture oers a 5 year professional B. Arch degree program spanning over 10 semesters. The aim is to educate and empower the future architect whose design skills can range across scale and scope, in service of an individual client as well as the society at large; who on one hand is taught in an environment of history, theory and artstc expression but on the other hand has enough understanding of allied scientc and technical subjects to work with engineering consultants and constructon industry. BNU School of Architecture lays special emphasis on inculcat- ing socio- economic responsibility as a value that can manifest itself as the economy of means towards a generosity of benecial ends in the built environment. The emergent respectability of architectural educaton in Pakistan heralds the possibilites of new architecture related developments beyond the normatve practces. It is the aim of BNUSA to capture this enthusiasm in pursuit of a mission oriented educaton that can improve the quality of life in an aordable and sustain- able manner without compromising the ideals of a professional educaton. The academic program closely follows the aspiratons and requirements of the HEC-PCATP (Higher Educaton Commission and the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners) Natonal Curriculum of Architecture. A carefully structured balance is created between the studies of historical precedents, critcal analysis of contemporary issues, theoretcal formulatons, applied sciences and technology and project based studios. All atempts are made to create an interdiscipli- nary educatonal atmosphere through shared electves with various Schools at BNU. The Bachelor of Architecture Degree awarded by BNU is duly accredited by PCATP: Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners. While current trends in architectural educaton leave limited opportunites for revisitng the professional curricula , BNU is commited to remain experimental in search of spin-o specializatons in the service of built environ- ments: building economics, life-cycle costng towards comprehensive sustainability, designed exibility towards adaptve reuse of buildings, energy sensitve building subsys- tems like visible HVAC subsystems, energy sensitve hardware especially windows, lightng and acoustc products, human-factor- integrated furniture design, accessibility and safety details for the handicapped, interior architecture . The School of Architecture places special emphasis on being connected to the contem- porary world. To this end numerous links have been created with European, Britsh, Canadian, American universites. The state of the art campus and especially the shared building housing the School of Visual Art and Design and the School of Architecture is being equipped with facilites to share online lectures and studio presentatons with faculty and students from other universites. The building is also designed to facilitate student experimental constructons aimed at understanding structural, constructonal and environmental necessites of architecture.
