2 Funding of the project detailed in the application PT
sent to all team members on 12/10/09 has been
granted by the IAS (Institute of Advanced Study).
The aims of this project are to carry out work to
produce the deliverables stated within it to
guarantee further funding from the IAS on future
projects.
3 The team need to engage with the IAS so they can PT
see the projects progress during the year so as to
persuade them to fund further projects.
Recommended meetings times are now, to
determine their requirements, mid-term via the
presentation and at the end of the academic year
via a final project report.
4 Contact with the IAS needs to be professional and PT
there needs to be marketing of the deliverables to
persuade the IAS to participate in this project. It
was recommended by Prof. E Hines that the
interviews be recorded to ensure
comprehensiveness.
5 Data of the following types shall be obtained from
the following specialists:-
Hard Data

Dr. Collier – WHRI – Data sets

Proff. E. Dowler – Sociology Dept – Food Production

Soft Data

Prof. W. Grant –Politics & International Studies –

Decision making, political statements, government
policies.

An appropriate technique of merging this hard &

soft data shall be investigated to be input into an
appropriately chosen intelligent system to output
the required information to the customer.

6 Other specialist contacts include:

Dr. K. Richards – Centre for Applied Linguistics –

Communication & workings of interdisciplinary
teams.

Yasmine Merali – WBS – Complexity at high level

and at the lower implementation level and
economics.

Dr. Illiescu – SOE – Data Gathering methods.

7 Get in contact with Phd Student – Jianhua Yang PT
works in A405A and is working on a similar project.
Prof. Hines wants them to be involved in this
project. i.e. include in meetings.
8 The team need to decide on the type of data that PT
will be the input to the project and then go to the
relevant specialists for their input/guidance.
9 One outcome of this project is producing a generic PT
model of a system to prove the theory.
10 Model data could be created based around a PT
scenario with the output of the system being a
realistic one w.r.t the input from created scenarios.
11 There are various examples of intelligent systems
application in the Intelligent Systems text book
given to the group as well as published papers in
the library.
12 Possible Customers at this stage:- PT
IAS – Further funding
EPSRC & BBSRC – Requirements to secure grant
funding

13 Requirements identified at this stage: PT

towards the project.
Possible impacts on the larger community, for
example, if the information produced was to be
used by governments/organisations to control and
