CONSTRUCTION
WELDLOK Forgebar grating is constructed of Load Bearing Bars in various depths and thicknesses with lateral restraint provided by 6mm square twisted Cross Bars forge welded to the upper edges of the Load Bearing Bars. This process produces a product of one piece construction with a high strength to weight ratio which meets the requirements of Australian Standard 16571992 and British Standard 4592-1970.
MATERIAL
The Load Bearing Bars in WELDLOK Forgebar gratings are manufactured from steel that complies to the following equivalent standards: AS 1594H250 AS 3679250

PLAIN
SERRATED
WELDLOK grating supplied with plain Load Bearing Bars and 6mm square twisted Cross Bars. Serrated Most WELDLOK gratings can be supplied with our unique serrations which are produced during the slitting of our material. This process provides a regular serration with a sharp edge ensuring maximum traction for slippery conditions.
WELDLOKs serrated grating has been tested by a recognised NATA laboratory for its co-efficient of friction and was found to be equal or slightly better than other similar local products. More importantly, because of WELDLOKs unique method of manufacture, the loss of load carrying capacity due to these serrations averages less than 8%. Refer to serrated conversion factor shown in load tables when calculating the load bearing and spanning capacity.

Finishes
WELDLOK Gratings are available in a choice of three finishes: 1. Hot Dipped Galvanised WELDLOK has its own in-house galvanising plant, providing a 24 hour service. The hot dip galvanising process produces a durable, abrasion resistant coating of metallic zinc and zinc-iron alloy layers metallurgically bonded to the steel base, at a bath temperature of 450C. Hot dip galvanising conforms to the equivalent following standards: Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4680:1999 British Standard BS729-1971 American Standard ASTM-A123-73 2. Black Bitumen Dipped An economical paint finish which is best suited to indoor installations, or mining applications in a dry climate. Note: there is no pre-treatment of steel before dipping. This finish is not recommended in corrosive areas. 3. Untreated (No surface treatment/protection) Normally supplied on stock mats or panels to customers who wish to perform their own fabrication on grating.
DESIGN CRITERIA
The figures shown in all safe load tables have been calculated in accordance with the following data: 1 Loading Code AS 1170-1 load combination 1.25 x Dead Load and 1.5 x Live Load. 2 Steel Structures Code AS 41001990. 3 Mass calculated with grating in an untreated and unedged condition. 4 Minimum yield strength of steel 260 MPa. 5 Load calculated in accordance with an allowable bending stress 171.6 MPa (0.66 Fy). 6 Load Bars are assumed simply supported and unserrated. 7 Spans have been based on maximum of 5mm deflection which is a limiting deflection for pedestrian comfort. See Load Tables on Pages 7, 9 and 11.

STAIR TREADS
WELDLOK stair treads can be supplied in Forgebar Series 30, 40, 60 and Diamond Grating. The treads shown here are purely illustrative. Overall tread length can be made to any dimension. We suggest though that tread width be selected from the table showing recommended widths. Stair treads wear at a greater rate than the actual flooring and are more inclined to become bowed because of continual and concentrated impact. Whatever the depth of the main flooring, we recommend that stair treads should never have less than a 25 x 5 Load Bar size. Nosing Bars should preferably be specified. When walking down a grating stairway having treads without Nosing Bars, the pattern of the grating tends to merge so that the edges of the tread become ill defined, possibly causing over and under stepping. The Nosing Bar also stiffens the front edge of the tread, further resisting deflection caused by impact loads.

WELDLOK GRIDPLATE
For those installations that require a solid surface of floor plate with maximum spanning ability combined with minimum weight, WELDLOK Gridplate is an economical and superior alternative to traditional floor plate systems. This product is ideal for applications which are subject to high impact loads, and can be manufactured from any of the WELDLOK range of Forgebar gratings.
13
WELDLOK FA S T E N I N G METHODS
FASTENING METHODS
The most positive fixing method and by far the most economical is on-site welding of the grating to support steelwork. Where panels are to be removable or where surface treatment of the grating may be damaged, WELDLOK fixing clips are recommended. These can be installed and made secure by personnel working from the top of the grating. WELDLOK fixing clips come in a standard galvanised finish. A minimum of 4 clips should be used per panel, on larger panels use extra clips at mid-span.
SERIES 30
ILLUSTRATIONS 1, 2 AND 3
Illustrations 1, 2 and 3 are suitable for WELDLOK Series 30, 40 and 60 gratings respectively, comprising a double saddle clip
SERIES 40
(suitable for the appropriate series). An 8mm diameter cheese head screw and bottom clamping bracket.
ILLUSTRATION 4
Both the WELDLOK Series 30 and Series 40 clips shown in 1 and 2 are suitable for use to secure two adjacent panels.
ILLUSTRATION 5 SERIES 60
Double saddle clip used with self drilling or thread cutting screws. Can also be used in locations where there is no open flange on the supporting steelwork to clamp to.
IMPORTANT
To reduce the risk of accidents WELDLOK recommends that if panels are used on site as a means of temporary access during erection, that they be lightly tack-welded to the support steelwork. Due to constant traffic, unfixed panels have a
tendency to move or drift imperceptibly away from the supporting flange with the potential for the next person to tip the panel. When an area of panels is in its correct position it should be fixed immediately, by one of the recommended methods.

Livestock grating is a forge-welded mild steel flooring system for abattoirs, slaughter houses, woolsheds, piggeries, cowsheds, calfpens and stock crates. It is used extensively overseas, particularly in New Zealand, in areas where hygiene is of the utmost importance. The grating is an economical, fast fitting system, and can span up to 1.5 metres between supports. This creates significant savings on supporting steelwork or timbers, thus making it ideal for elevated flooring. Weldlok Livestock Grating has an 80% open area which allows quick and easy cleaning of the grating and the floor under the grating. The rigidity of the steel grating allows for the direct bolting of posts and fences, therefore allowing the simple movement of fence lines. Standard mats 6.2 metres by 1.063 metres are available ex stock, with custom panels available on request. Hot dip galvanised or untreated are the finishes available.

WELDLOK Steel Armour Floor Tiles are available either untreated or galvanised. The 16 tangs bond each WELDLOK Steel Armour Floor Tile to the concrete floor, distributing weight evenly and shielding the concrete from damaging impact and stresses. The concrete subfloor should be designed to carry the anticipated loads without taking into account the concrete used to bed the tiles.
INSTALLATION
Tiles should be bedded in a compactable, plastic concrete base that should be at least 40mm thick. The mix for this base should be: 1 part cement 2 parts fine sand 1.5 parts gravel (10mm sieve size maximum) WELDLOK Steel Armour Floor Tiles should be laid in small, workable sections of approximately 1m2 on a base that has been screed off to the correct floor level and fall. Tap tiles with a hammer, taking care to align all tile junctions. Concrete extruded through the tang holes should be cleared away before it dries.
APPLICATIONS
Strengthen and protect concrete floors Prevent high impact damage Restore broken concrete floor Prevent heavy traffic damage Economical, long wearing, safe
DESCRIPTION
Each WELDLOK Steel Armour Floor Tile measures 250 x 250mm (16 tiles = 1m2) and is constructed of 2.5mm steel plate (wt = 22kg/m )
