The Project
Intercultural Dialogue 3.0 - From theory to toolbox

"Intercultural Dialogue (ICD) counts as one of the key objectives for international youth programs. In contrast to the high priority given to this objective stands the often low level of theoretical reflection on the underlying terminology which form the base of the concepts of ICD. This frequently results in a gap between the practice of ICD and the developments on theoretical level, which could help to reflect on the current practice, evaluate it in regard of the aspired goals and give valuable input for the development of new methods. The proposed seminar wants to address this gap by providing a space for a critical reflection of ICD concepts while focusing at the same time on the development of new tools. It will take place from 25.3.-3.4 2014 in Aghveran, Armenia and will gather 28 youth workers from 12 countries. The specific objectives of the seminar are: To deepen the understanding of ICD among the participants by providing a space for critical reflection on the applied concepts and its underlying terminology To share, review current methods and develop new tools of ICD based on the theoretical concepts discussed To establish a network of like-minded organizations and individuals, who are interested in the further exchange on the

link between theory and practice of ICD and the development of new tools To mobilize the participants to develop and realize follow up project which raises the intercultural awareness and sensitivity of young people The first part of the seminar will be dedicated to a discussion of different approaches towards the basic terminology and a deeper examination of implicit notions of the used concepts. This will serve as a base for the second part which will consist in the development of new tools and methods for ICD. The methods applied will combine theoretical inputs with sessions based on the experiences of the participants to ensure active involvement throughout the seminar and to make best use of their experiences and knowledge

Venue
The project will take place in a rest house near Aghveran which is located in Kotayk region, Republic of Armenia and has 2000 inhabitants. The distance from Yerevan, the capital of the Republic is 60km. The nature is very nice in the surroundings of the Hotel with lots of forests. As we are situated in the mountains the climate in March can still be cold, especially during the evening (don't rely on the figures for Yerevan). Make sure you take light clothing for the work in the building as well as something warm to wear for outdoor activities and the way between hotel and training hall. There is an appropriate central heating system in the hotel. The rest house is fully equipped to host international projects with appropriate equipment, working spaces and leisure time activities. You will be sharing a double room with another person of the same sex, each room has one bathroom. There are towels and bed linen in the hotel. Internet is available in/around the training hall. Here you can find further information on the place: http://parkresort.am/about-us/?lang=en Note: The hosting organizations can support you in arranging accommodation for participants who arrive earlier to Armenia or need to stay longer due to flight nonavailability or considerably cheaper flights (see the separate document on reimbursement rules)

Travelling to the venue

Take a flight to Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport from all the countries except Georgia; from Georgia you can either take a train or a minibus. It is also possible to arrive to Tbilisi International airport and travel to Yerevan from there. For those coming by plane the best flight connections to Yerevan are flights via Prague (Czech Airlines) and Vienna (Austrian Airlines). It might be also convenient for you to check out the flights via Moscow (Aeroflot), Poland (LOT) and Ukraine (UIA). All participants will be picked up from the Airport, Train or Bus Station and we will arrange your transportation to the Airport, Train or Bus Station after the project. You will receive more detailed information regarding picking you up and transportation to the project venue once we receive your travel information. Please look at the Airport, Train/Bus Station for the volunteer with a paper with the name of our project. In emergency cases contact our project coordinators.

VISA Arrangement
None of the participants (except for Turkey) need visa to enter Armenia. From January 2013 EU citizens do not need visa to enter Armenia. Lucky you! You just go to the passport checking point and afterwards receive your luggage. So please, take your PASSPORTS with you. You have to have a valid passport to enter Armenia. Participants from Turkey will get visa on arrival as before. Consider having 3000 AMD (about 6 EUR) with you for paying for your short term 21 days single entry visa. Please, do not exchange much money in the airport, the rates there are unbelievable :) Please, try to send participants from Turkey who have ordinary passports. For a participant with a green passport or a diplomatic passport there has to be a special invitation letter from us and it takes some time to make and approve it by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Preparation
Please be prepared to present your organization during the project. For this bring some information materials about your organization, photos and reports from former projects and other things which will help you to do so. As we have a lot of participating organizations the presentation will be organized as an NGO fair, which means you will get time during the project to prepare a good old analogue

poster...which also means there will be no time for individual Power Point presentations. As this is a seminar on intercultural learning/dialogue, you are highly encouraged to share your good practice and methodologies regarding the topic of the project. In case you have any (theoretical) background document about your understanding of Intercultural Dialogue and its related terms please also share it with us. And do not forget to bring some national drinks and snacks for the intercultural evenings National currency in Armenia is DRAM (AMD) and its value in euro is about 540-560 drams for 1 euro but it would be good for you to check the exact rate before you depart on the website of Central Bank of Armenia (just to have a better idea). Payments everywhere in Armenia (except Airport) are accepted only in national currency. The best currencies for exchanging in Armenia are EUR, USD, RUB, GEL.
