For three years of existence of the Municipality of Maco by Virtue of Republic Act No. 4975 in June 17, 1967, there was no public high school created. Through the effort of the late Atty. Orlando S. Rimando, the municipal mayor and his councilors, established Maco Municipal High School on September 1971 located at Barangay Binuangan. It has a land area of 2.5 hectares. The school was officially founded on the birthday of the late Orlando S. Rimando on November 4, 1992 there were only three classrooms occupied by first and second year level with five teachers. Mrs. Kime dela Cerna, one of the teachers was designated as Teacher In-charge by Mrs. Prudencio N. Mabanglo, the district supervisor. After one year on June 1973, Mrs. Flavia Rimando was appointed the principal of the school. As the principal, she was able to request for the construction of 23 additional classrooms. Because of the untimely death of Mrs. Falavia Rimando, Mrs. Kime dela Cerna was designated Teachers Incharge Mrs. G. Simeon of Pantukan Provincial School was appointed Principal I from 1982 to 1988 and was promoted to Principal II from 1989 until her retirement in 2003. She continues the development of education and initiated to expand additional buildings and teachers that are geared toward educational alleviation of students. In 1988, all public high schools were nationalized and Maco National High School was one. Then Maco Municipal High School was changed to Maco National High School. After the retirement of Mrs. Deborah G. Simeon, Mr. Virgilito C. Pabrecis took over and after two years, he was promoted to Education Supervisor I in Mathematics of the Division of Compostela Valley.

At present, the school is headed by Mrs. Nila l. Palmero since 2006 with 76 teachers and staff. The school continues to cater the youth of the coastal barangays of the town including the adjacent barangay of the municipality of Mabini and Tagum City. It has centered even the youth of the far flung barangays of the town by its annex. Schools in New Leyte the year 2001 offering first year level. Another annex school was opened in 2002 at barangay Mainit New Leyte annex & Mainit annex was legislated in December 2009. Mr. Marcelino P. Alicarte Jr. was deployed as teachers in-charge together with three other teachers. Mainit annex was headed by Mr. Randy M. Villacorteza from 2003 to 2006. Then Mr. Carlos Abarico took over from January 2007 to August 2008. After the landslide tragedy in Masara, Mainit annex was temporarily transferred to Elizalde National High School site until March 2009 with Mrs. Marites V. Uy the teacher in- charge until it was finally declared closed in June 2009. Last June 2008 with initiative of the Congressman of District II of Compostela Valley, Hon. Rommel C. Amatong and the Provincial Governor Hon. Arturo T. Uy with the Municipal Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire R. Rimando and the barangay officials of Panibasan, Maco headed by barangay captain Julito Nacorda, the school opened annex at Panibasan for first year. Mrs. Edna G. Ombecan, Master Teacher I was deployed as Teacher In-charge. With the Masara landslide in September 2008, Mainit High School annex was closed providing a way for Panibasan annex to offer complete curriculum level. Today, Maco National High School is one of the progressive schools in the Division of Compostela Valley and even stayed in the limelight in regional and national competitions being a recipient of numerous awards and recognition both in the academic and non-academic field. With the help of the local government unit and other government and private agencies, teachers and parents who depend on farming, fishing, profession. Business and employment in private companies, the institution continues to improve in terms of infrastructure and other educational programs. The school remained steadfast for 37 years now after its foundation. From and infant school, it had grown so much. In terms of building, from 3 classrooms it zoomed to 45 and from 7 to 86 teachers at present. At present, the school was rename from Maco National High School to Atty. Orlando S. Rimando National High School by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 004, series of 2011, in honor of the late founder and land donor.
