$ 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ These rules represent an alternative survey arrangement and information availability standard for machinery in the operational phase. The notation is a voluntary class notation under the 1$87,&86 family of additional class notations and may be assigned at any stage in the vessels life cycle, see Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.2 B900 and Ch.7. The requirement in Ch.7 Sec.2 A102 regarding establishment of a 3-D graphical hull model is not mandatory for assignment of 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ .
*XLGDQFH QRWH The term information availability standard refers to the information content available through DNVs Product Model, see Pt.7 Ch.7 Sec.2.
---e-n-d---of---G-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e---

*XLGDQFH QRWH Where no criteria are given, recognised marine standards, own documented experience, or recommendations given by relevant manufacturers or other parties may be used.
---e-n-d---of---G-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e---

Information derived from condition monitoring systems, as prescribed by these rules, is normally accepted as being equivalent to direct inspection.

% $VVLJQPHQW RI &ODVV 1RWDWLRQ 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ

% &RQGLWLRQV The basic conditions for the notation 1$87,&86 3UR SXOVLRQ are as listed below. The ship shall have: the class notation ( or (&2 (unmanned machinery space or machinery centralised operated) a survey arrangement based on a planned maintenance system (SA-PMS) a survey arrangement based on tailshaft condition monitoring (TMON). In addition, the following is to be provided onboard: electronic cylinder pressure measurement equipment programme for fuel oil bunker analysis programme for lubricating oil analysis (samples to be sent ashore for laboratory analysis) portable vibration measurement equipment portable equipment to measure electrical power consumption e.g. multimeter. The instrumentation is to be evaluated and accepted by the Society for: absolute accuracy relative accuracy stability fitness for the operating environment.

*XLGDQFH QRWH Vessels with slow or medium speed engines are most suitable for this notation.
---e-n-d---of---G-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e---

The requirements given in this chapter partly replace the periodical and continuous machinery survey arrangement as described in Ch.2, subject to the establishment of an agreement which governs the assignment of the class notation 1$87, &86 3URSXOVLRQ to an individual ship. With reference to the planned maintenance system (PMS) inventory list, the following systems are covered by 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ : main diesel engine main reduction gear shafting arrangement auxiliary diesel engine for generator compressed air system fuel system lubricating oil system cooling system auxiliary feed water system.

All other systems are to be covered by the planned maintenance survey scheme as found applicable.
*XLGDQFH QRWH For definition of main diesel engine in a diesel-electric propulsion plant, see Pt.4 Ch.8 Sec.12 A100.
---e-n-d---of---G-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e---

The notation 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ will be assigned when the documents describing the items listed below have been submitted by the company and have been approved by the Society, and the initial survey has been successfully performed: the maintenance philosophy or strategy the implementation of the condition based maintenance strategy the baseline performance data the condition monitoring system, see Sec.4 for specific requirements. In the rules, the vibration monitoring is based on overall RMS (root mean square) readings and all notices for the condition monitoring and its criteria are related hereto.
*XLGDQFH QRWH If desirable, a monitoring system based on spectral analysis with FFT (fast Fourier transformation) signal processing, may be implemented instead. With a monitoring system based on spectral analysis, a fault diagnosis may be carried out for the actual rotating component. For a system based on overall levels, fault diagnoses is limited. When the vibration criteria are exceeded in this case, action to be taken

The agreement describes specific obligations of the company and the Society, based on installed equipment and systems. An implemented and approved planned maintenance system and class notation ( or (&2 are required, and the arrangement for tailshaft monitoring (TMON) has to comply with Pt.4 Ch.4 Sec.1 E300. All ships for which an agreement has been established are subject to surveys as specified in this chapter. It is to be ascertained that machinery condition and performance are according to criteria laid down in these rules.

In this context, baseline data are data recorded at reference conditions, in regard to both the vessels draft and the running condition of the main and auxiliary machinery and equipment. Baseline data shall be obtained during the first loaded voyage where the operating conditions of all components listed in Table B3 are clearly defined and representative of future in-service operations. In particular this applies to: any adjacent machinery that may influence vibration levels the vessels draft. Steady state operation is to be ensured prior to commencement of all baseline measurements. This is particularly important to note in regard to the reduction gear, diesel or PTO generators and compressors. Only combustion data derived from electronically taken measurements are acceptable as baseline data. The baseline data are used when evaluating future in-service conditions. The in-service data shall be corrected to the same ambient conditions as the baseline data. Baseline data for main engine performance are to be obtained at 6 different loads, evenly distributed, in the range 70% to 100% of maximum continuous rating. The measured level should preferably be presented as acceleration (g). The criteria stated for vibration measurements are to be considered as guidelines. Before collecting baseline data, a non-vibration environment has to be confirmed, ensuring that the vibration excited by the actual component is not masked by other adjacent equipment. The vibration measurements of reduction gears transmitting a power in excess of 200 kW are to be recorded for one representative load condition in the upper operating range. The vibration measurements of generators are to be recorded at one representative load condition in the upper operating range. $ *HQHUDO 1$87,&86 3URSXOVLRQ is based on an evaluation of the condition and performance of the machinery through: measurements of essential parameters visual inspection function testing, as found applicable (see Sec.3). The functionality of all control functions for the machinery is to be verified. The control systems are to be tested by varying the parameters having an effect on the controlled process. As far as practicable it is to be verified that all normal control ranges are covered. The functionality of all safety and alarm functions, including the indication of the machinery, as required for the notation and shown in Sec.1 Table B1 and Table B2, are to be verified annually. As part of the periodical surveys, the PMS will be reviewed and is to include records of inspections, maintenance, damage, defects and relevant corrective actions. These records are to be kept as objective evidence of the effective functioning of the system. The records are to be readily accessible to the attending surveyor. As part of the periodical survey, all test reports (including readings of condition monitoring parameters) as required in the tables of Sec.3 are to be reviewed and evaluated. The test reports are to be readily accessible to the attending surveyor. Unless agreed otherwise, in writing, between the company and the Society, it is a condition for parts identified in Sec.1 Table B4, Table B5 and Table B6, that wear parameters are within limits specified by the manufacturer. Where no such limits are specified, the wear parameters are to be in accordance with good engineering practice. In all cases where damage occurs to items in the inventory list, a surveyor is to be called in to survey and report on the damage. If service experience show wear and tear and other defects that cannot be considered as normal (wear or failure rate higher than expected), these are to be reported and the Society can require the maintenance interval be shortened.
*XLGDQFH QRWH The interval between planned maintenance actions is chosen so as to be able to identify deterioration before critical situations occur. If the wear rate leads to parts being changed with shorter intervals than stated by the manufacturer, it should be considered as not normal.

$ 6XUYH\ GDWD Whenever data related to functionality and performance shall be recorded, the following conditions are to be met: a) The data are to be obtained during the highest possible power and at least 70% of rated power [kW] for all relevant components, if not otherwise specified. b) Steady state of the engine and the ship's speed is always to be established prior to commencement of tests. c) Performance data should be recorded at the same draft as when the baseline recordings were carried out. d) For controllable pitch propeller plants the records are to be made with the same combinator pitch characteristics (or constant pitch setting) as used when the base line data were established. For recording of vibration data related to the condition monitoring system, reference is made to the baseline measurements. Prior to the recording of the data, the following conditions are to be met: a) The data are to be recorded at the reference conditions used during the baseline measurements. This is valid for both the vessels draft and the running conditions of machinery adjacent to the actual machinery. b) Steady state of the propulsion machinery, the ship's speed and other relevant auxiliary components are to be established prior to commencement of tests. If applicable, measured values are to be corrected to ISO conditions as valid for the baseline data and compared to baseline data with corresponding acceptance limits established at the time of assignment of the notation. During complete periodical surveys, the machinery is to be surveyed by a surveyor of the Society during normal operation. The survey is to verify that normal functionality is maintained under normal operating conditions. The survey is to continue until stable conditions are obtained and all relevant recordings are completed. At all other periodical surveys, the general functionality of the machinery is evaluated on the basis of data, measurements and observations recorded by the company combined with the surveyor's observations from survey of the machinery spaces and review of relevant records.

The Society is to be informed about changes in maintenance intervals of survey items given in the inventory list. The documentation shall contain relevant maintenance history and performance results, if applicable. The manufacturers recommendation is also to be considered. If tolerances or limitations for the condition monitoring are to be changed from values initially approved, the justification for such changes is to be well documented and accepted by the manufacturer, prior to the Societys approval. If the operational responsibility of the ship is transferred to another company, then the class notation is deleted unless otherwise agreed.

suitable measurements when the vessel is afloat. Relevant methods are: bearing loads checked by jacking bending stress measurements (strain gauge readings) other approved methods. The measurements are to be carried out and presented to the surveyor on request. The measured values are to be in accordance with the initial measurements. The measurements are to be carried out once every 5 years and/or when the system has been dismantled. % 7RUVLRQDO YLEUDWLRQV Propulsion systems containing components or elements,

which may change characteristics during the lifetime and hence influence the torsional behaviour of the system, are to be surveyed periodically. Such components may be: vibration dampers elastic couplings speed governor or quick passing through-device. The mentioned components are to be maintained and inspected as approved by the Society or as recommended by the manufacturer. As an alternative to opening up for inspection, measurements may be carried out to confirm the correct dynamic conditions. The torsional vibration measurements are to be carried out and reported to the Society. The results are to be compared with the approved limits (torsional vibration calculations).

the 10 to 1000 Hz range and the "high frequency range".

*XLGDQFH QRWH The following recommended actions should be taken once the measured level exceeds 90% of the acceptance criteria: Confirm that the vibration nature is internal and excluding external sources i.e. excessive vibration caused by failure of adjacent machinery. This may be performed by repeated measurements altering the running conditions of adjacent machinery. Close follow-up by shortening the time interval between the vibration measurements in the condition monitoring program. Once the measured levels exceed the acceptance criteria, the following actions should be evaluated: Overhaul of the machinery item. Investigate the cause to the vibration level by means of spectral analysis, and act in accordance with the findings.

$ *HQHUDO
$ *HQHUDO The specific requirements for condition monitoring are covered in B, C and D. These address oil and performance analysis and vibration requirements. The minimum requirements for data acquisition and analysis remain closely correlated to the parameters used and acceptance criteria defined for the class notation. These requirements should therefore be read in conjunction with the criteria definitions, see Sec.3. Conditions for accepting condition monitoring as part of the surveys are as follows: the parameters selected reflect the correct functions to be monitored tolerances or limitations are clearly defined based on manufacturer's and/or class recommendations standard reference conditions are clearly given recordings, measurements and trends are presented in a simple and easily readable manner. See also Sec.1 B300. % 'DWD VWRUDJH DQG WUHQG DQDO\VLV

Historical data storage and trend presentation facilities are to be available so as to allow the surveyor access to data collected since the last survey. This may be as simple as results plotted on graph paper or in a spreadsheet, or it may be implemented in a designated computer system.

& *HQHUDO The requirements for electronic engine performance analysis equipment defined in C are primarily related to cylinder pressure measurements. Various data from the normal engine instrumentation supplements these measurements, but this instrumentation is not subject to any requirements beyond the standard requirements. & 'DWD WR EH VXEPLWWHG The following data are to be submitted for approval:

a) Equipment data sheet or specification for sensor, data acquisition, and analysis equipment.

% 2LO $QDO\VLV
% *HQHUDO Technical requirements for oil analysis may vary with the mechanical equipment being surveyed. % 'DWD WR EH VXEPLWWHG The following data are to be submitted for approval: a) Data on oil sampling method, describing position and valve or sampler used. Wherever a commercial oil sampler is utilised, data sheet is to be submitted. b) Defined oil sampling procedure(s). c) Oil analysis techniques utilised are to be specified. Depending on the mechanical equipment being surveyed, these may include particle counting, spectroscopic analysis, water content and viscosity. % %DVLF UHTXLUHPHQWV The oil sampling point should be positioned to ensure that the sample is acquired from the return flow. Usually this will mean immediately downstream from the equipment unit in question. Oil samples are always to be acquired while the equipment unit is operating and the oil is circulating. Wherever samples intended for particle counting are acquired, special ultra-clean particle free bottles are to be used. Also, both the sampling point and the procedure are to be designed so as to minimise the risk of contamination. Under normal circumstances oil samples are to be sent to a laboratory for analysis. However, for certain analyses (water content in particular), on board analysis may be found acceptable by the Society. Details on test equipment or kit used are to be submitted in such cases.

b) Data sheet or specification for the software including which parameters that are calculated and how the curves are displayed. Procedures for data acquisition and analysis are to be submitted by the operator, including intervals between measurements. & %DVLF UHTXLUHPHQWV The measurement equipment is to have a dynamic response sufficient to accurately measure the true maximum cylinder pressure. It is not required that the system is capable of simultaneous measurements of all cylinders. However, wherever the equipment has to be moved between cylinders for measurements, the engine control should be set so as to keep power as stable as possible during data acquisition. The analysis equipment is as a minimum to be able to provide data on all the performance related parameters defined in Sec.3. (Those items not covered by the ordinary engine room instrumentation). System or software is to be utilised so that it allows the entire cylinder pressure curve to be measured, analysed and presented at a resolution of at least one degree crank angle. The system or software should also be capable of presenting the work diagram. The system or software should preferably also be capable of presenting all cylinders at the same time in the diagrams. The engine indicator cocks are to be maintained by the operator to allow precise and repeatable measurements. & 'DWD VWRUDJH DQG WUHQG DQDO\VLV Historical data storage and trend presentation facilities are to be available so as to allow the surveyor access to data collected since the last survey. This may be as simple as results plotted on graph paper or in a spreadsheet, or it may be implemented in a designated computer system.

' *HQHUDO The vibration measurements are to be carried out by means of an accelerometer coupled to a vibration meter or data collector. The measured results may either be presented digitally on a screen as an overall level or as a frequency spectrum, were different frequency components are visualised. In these rules equipment for overall measurements are considered only. The measuring equipment has to be suitable for the on board environment such as temperature and humidity, including the surface temperature on the sensor mounting surface. ' 'DWD WR EH VXEPLWWHG The following data are to be submitted for approval: a) Equipment data sheet or specification for sensor, data acquisition, and analysis equipment. b) Data sheet or specification for the software including which parameters that are calculated and how the results (levels and trends) are displayed. Procedures for data acquisition and analysis are to be submitted by the company, including intervals between measurements. ' %DVLF UHTXLUHPHQWV The minimum requirement for the measuring equipment is as follows: a) The vibration level is shown digitally on a display as an overall RMS value. b) The vibration signal has to be band pass filtered in accordance with two frequency ranges (see Sec.1 B408): 10 to 1000 Hz a higher frequency range for detection of ball or roller bearing failure. The measured level should preferably be presented as acceleration (g). The accelerometer(s) shall satisfy the following minimum requirements: measuring range: minimum 10 g frequency range: suitable for the actual frequency ranges as listed above. The following is recommended: sensitivity: approximately 100 mV/g shock limit: minimum 5000 g peak. Failure in the measuring equipment may be checked before measurements are performed, using a portable calibrator device.
*XLGDQFH QRWH Failure in the measuring equipment, particularly cable failure in the connection between the transducer and the collector may be difficult to discover prior to routine measurements. This may cause faulty readings. It is recommended to check the measuring equipment prior to each vibration test for instance, by means of a simple portable calibrator.

actual bearings in all three directions for all rotating machinery included in the monitoring system. In order to avoid duplicate measurements, it is sufficient to measure the axial response on one side of the driver only. For pump and fan installations, both bearings on the electro motor and the bearing on the coupling side of the pump and fan are to be monitored in two radial directions (x, y) in positions as shown in Fig.1 and Fig.2. The response in axial direction (z) is to be measured on the pump bearing and on the coupling side only of the driver. For separators, both bearings on the electric motor and the bearing below the bowl on the separator are to be monitored in all three directions as shown in Fig.3, except for the axial response on the driver's free end, which may be omitted.

The data collector shall satisfy the following requirements: frequency range corresponding to the actual accelerometer safe for all process areas (e.g. gas safe for use in pump rooms) sampling frequency sufficient for anti-aliasing sufficient memory to store at least one complete route (measurements of all relevant units as listed in Sec.1 Table B3). The following is recommended: the possibility to load the measured data in to a computer.

Preferably, the transducer is to be mounted with a screw connection. In this case, all studs are to be permanently installed. Magnet mounting is acceptable, but then dedicated mounting surfaces on the machinery component have to be machined. These surfaces are to be kept free of paint, to ensure proper magnet contact. It is important that the sensor is mounted in a position of direct metallic contact with the bearing. In general, the response is to be monitored close to the
