Baseband Subsystem : The functions of the baseband subsystem are implemented by the LBBP. The baseband subsystem performs the functions for the user plane of the Uu interface, including uplink and downlink scheduling and data processing. In addition, this subsystem provides the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) for communication between the BBU3900 and Radio Frequency (RF) units p According to the indication of uplink scheduling result, the uplink processing module receives data over uplink channels, demodulates and decodes the data, assembles the data into packets, and then transmits the data to the MME or SGW through the transport subsystem. In addition, the module performs measurements on uplink channels. p According to the indication of downlink scheduling result, the downlink processing module assembles the data received from the transport subsystem into packets, encodes and modulates the data, performs Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) processing, and then transmits the signals over the CPRI interface. p The CPRI interface is used for transmission of data between the BBU3900 and RF units Power and Environment Monitoring Subsystem :The functions of the power and environment monitoring subsystem are implemented by the UPEU and environment monitoring unit p Supplies power to the BBU3900. p Monitors the power status of the BBU3900. p Provides ports for connections to the environment monitoring unit and receives and forwards the signals from the environment monitoring unit

STMA (Smart Tower-mounted Amplifier) mode. In this mode, the distance between the RRU and the RCU is longer than 20 m and the TMA is required for the eNodeB. p A command is sent to the BBU on the M2000 or the LMT, and then the BBU transfers that command to the RRU. The RRU transfers the DC power and the OOK (On-Off-Keying ) signals to the STMA from the connector on top of the cabinet. The STMA demodulates the OOK signals to RS485 signals and then supplies the RS485 signals and part of the DC power to the RCU. SBT( Smart Bias-Tee ) mode. In this mode, the distance between the RRU and the RCU is longer than 20 m and the TMA is not required for the eNodeB. p A command is sent to the BBU on the M2000 or the LMT, and then the BBU transfers that command to the RRU. The RRU transfer the DC power and the OOK signals to the SBT from the connector on top of the cabinet. The SBT demodulates the OOK signals to RS485 signals and then supplies the RS485 signals and part of the DC power to the RCU. Direct connection through multi-core cables. eNodeB LTE TDD V100R004 Product Description

In the case, RCU of Huawei and the SBT of Kathrein are configured. The RCU (Remote Control Unit) is the motor drive of the phase shifter inside the electrical antenna. It receives and runs the control commands from the base station and drives the stepper motor. The stepper motor drives the phase shifter inside the antenna device, and the phase shifter adjusts the antenna tilt. Interface RS485 functions as the control interface of the RCU. The SBT (Smart Bias-Tee) provides DC power supply and control commands through the feeder for the RCU. The SBT is installed on the RET antenna side. The SBT provides the following functions: p The SBT converts the control commands that are modulated with OOK by the feeder into the RS485 signals and transfers the signals to the RCU. p The SBT converts the RS485 signals from the RCU into OOK signals and transfers the signals to the feeder. p The SBT divides and sends the RF signals and control signals from the feeder to the antenna and the RCU. p The SBT transmits the direct current from the feeder to the RCU.

eNodeB LTE TDD V100R004 Product Description

A x B MHz indicates that an eNodeB is configured with A cells of B MHz bandwidth. xTyR indicates that each cell uses x TX channels and y RX channels. For example, "3 x 10 MHz, 2T2R" indicates that the eNodeB is configured with three cells of 10 MHz bandwidth, and each cell uses two TX channels and two RX channels.

eNodeB LTE TDD V100R004 Product Description

Star topology p Advantage: Each eNodeB is connected directly to the MME through the transport network. Therefore, this simple topology features easy engineering, maintenance, and capacity expansion; Each eNodeB exchanges data with the MME directly. Signals travel through only a few nodes, and therefore network reliability is high p Disadvantage: Compared with the other two topologies, the star topology requires more transmission resources Chain topology & Tree topology p Advantage: The costs of transmission equipment, engineering, and transport line lease are relatively low p Disadvantage: Signals travel through many nodes, and therefore network reliability is low. Each lower-level eNodeB occupies some transmission bandwidth of its upper-level eNodeB. Reliability of the upper-level eNodeB affects operation of the lower-level eNodeB.

eNodeB LTE TDD V100R004 Product Description

Star topology p Advantage: This topology features high reliability. Faults in an RRU/RFU or optical cable affect one sector at most. This simple topology facilitates installation and maintenance. p Disadvantage: Compared with the other two topologies, the star topology requires more transmission resources. Chain topology p Advantage: This topology requires relatively low costs of transmission equipment. p Disadvantage: Limitations are applied to the number of levels in a chain and the distance between units in a chain; LRRUs in different duplex modes cannot be cascaded in a chain. A faulty LRRU may affect operation of lower-level LRRUs. p Remarks: Cascading between LRFU and LRRU is not supported. An LRRU chain can contain a maximum of three LRRUs. (Cascading is applicable only when the channel bandwidth is 1.4 MHz, 3 MHz, or 5 MHz.). A chain supports only one rate at a time, because interconnected CPRI ports on two LRRUs in a chain must work at the same rate. Tree topology p Advantage: The ring topology provides high transmission reliability. p Disadvantage: Limitations are applied to the number of levels in a chain and the distance between units in a chain; LRRUs in different duplex modes cannot be cascaded in a chain. A faulty LRRU may affect operation of lower-level LRRUs.
