A er IAR Workbench KickStart is installed you can access the program in the All Programs window:

6.

This will allow you run the program but when it comes me to run and debug the program, the driver needs to be installed. Some computers will fail to load the correct driver even though the Device Manager shows a driver is dedicated to the device:

8.

Select Browse my computer for driver so ware (do not allow it to search automa cally).

9.

11. Windows will give you and indirectly Texas Instrument a hard me for not paying their price for worry-free installa on

12. Clicking past this we get:

13. And in the Device Manager we see a second MSP-FET430UIF driver installed in the Mul -port serial adapters. This diers from the other driver which is a Serial Port.

14. We have to select the TI USB FET Adapter during setup in the Op ons for the KickStart so ware.

15. Ive seen this same driver installed in the Port (COM & LPT) directory of the Device Manager and other loca ons. This past summer I went to a TI workshop and installed a new driver for an advanced device and now I just have one that works for the MSP30.

16. Also, whenever you switch and use someone elses MSP430 you will have to download a driver for that device. They appear to be isolated instances for each installa on. Shown below is my Device Manager a er installing another MSP430F2013. Both MSP430 were NOT inserted at the same me, I was merely plugging the 2nd one in to test it on my computer.

17. Before Windows 7, on Windows XP you had to wait for the opera ng system to discover the device a second me so that both instances (parallel and serial) were installed otherwise the MSP430 wouldnt work. With the advent of Windows 7, TI has gone over to using one driver.
