Whats happened so far?

rst batch of subjects- new specs for 2015 start rules: external assessment unless very strong reasons greater rigour new grading system at GCSE Russell group involvement at A level (ALCAB) for facilitating subjects

2015 starts

GCSEs: English Literature, English Language, Maths A-Levels: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature, History, Art and Design, Business, Computer Science, Economics, and Sociology.

2016 specs
stakeholders going to meetings at DFE:
awarding bodies, subject assocs, etc modes of assessment

looking at content, assessment objectives, desire to complete changes quickly for

parity of specs in system (grading 9-1 etc)

2016 starts

GCSEs: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Combined Science, History, Geography A-Levels: Geography, Maths, Further Maths, Languages PLUS: DFE list of non-Ebac subjects being fast tracked (but not Media or Film)

other subjects

the bizarre subjects awarding bodies to make case for redevelopment for 2017 got to prove suitability for GCSE and GCE brands consultations probably this summer: on content (DFE) and on assessment (Ofqual) need to involve stakeholder groups so current Media/Film specs include 2016-18 cohort

DFE/Ofqual principles
(what makes a GCE/GCSE)

reasonable number of candidates not too vocational clear progression to HE can be assessed effectively (usually not coursework) stakeholder involvement comparability of standard (to old specs and each other)
