Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2. The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. ISO was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 8, , Subcommittee SC 8, . This second/third/... edition cancels and replaces the first/second/... edition (), [clause(s) / subclause(s) / table(s) / figure(s) / annex(es)] of which [has / have] been technically revised.

Requirements
Materials
For the materials of the major components for the oil-tight hatch cover, refer to table 6. Table 6 Materials of the Major Components for the Oil-Tight Hatch Cover Materials Name of Components Name Trademark ISO No.

4.1.1

Coaming, cover plate, bracket, guide plate, connecting plate, connecting rod, lock catch, ear plate, stiffener, sight cap, reinforcing plate with pressing ring, switching mechanism Seal rings Wing clasp X5CrNi18-9 Stainless steel X2CrNiMo17-12 ISO 9328-5 Structural steel for hull E235-A ISO 630

Nitrile butadiene rubber, fluoro rubber, Teflon Brass

4.1.2 Shore hardness shall be among 35~45 and the tensile strength no less than 14MPa when the material of seal ring is nitrile butadiene rubber; Shore hardness shall be less than 60 and the tensile strength no less than 14MPa when the material of seal ring is fluoro rubber.

4.2

Appearance

There shall be no such defects as burr and crack on the surface of the oil-tight hatch cover, and the sharp edges shall be rounded or chamfered.

4.3

Performance

The oil-tight hatch cover may be handled by one operator alone; there shall be no shake or clamping stagnation when it opens/closes.

4.4

Leak tightness

4.4.1 The packing washer and the pressing ring of the oil-tight hatch cover shall contact continuously, and the width of their press mark shall be no less than half of the thickness of the coaming. 4.4.2 Leakage is unacceptable when the oil-tight hatch cover is under the pressure between 0.025MPa and 0.10MPa.

5.1

Test methods
Materials

Check materials with the method applied to the trademark and the quality certificate.

5.2

Size tolerance

Measure the main size tolerances of the oil-tight hatch cover with conventional measuring devices.

5.3

Appearance

Check the appearance of the oil-tight hatch cover with visual and touching method..

5.4

Performance

Check the flexibility and stability of the hinge and the screw clasp by continuously opening and closing the hatch cover twice by one operator alone and twice swiveling the rigging screw.

5.5

Leak tightness

5.5.1 Add whiting to the pressing ring, and then close the oil-tight hatch cover. Check the width of the press mark on the sealing member after opening the cover. 5.5.2 Install the oil-tight hatch cover on the special sealing test chamber and close the cover. Inject water and supply pressure among 0.025MPa and 0.10MPa to the chamber, maintain it for five minutes, and then check the leak tightness condition of the cover.
