*** [ILC] DU'A THE WEAPON OF THE BELIEVER

DEFINITION OF DU'AA

Requesting Allah's personal attention by means of supplication and invocation for

the fulfillment of one's personal needs directly from Allah Himself. Therefore,
the need to turn to Allah is in simple words, du'aa.

DU'AA IN HADEETH

Nu'maan Ibne Basheer reports that the Messenger of Allah said, "Du'aa
(supplication) is worship". (Aboo Daawood)

'Aa'ishah(R) has said that the Messenger of Allah liked comprehensive du'aa and
discarded others. (Aboo Daawood)

Anas narrated the du'aa most often recited by the Messenger of Allah , "O Allah!
Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the
fire (of Jahannam)." (Bukhaari and Muslim)

Taariq Ibne Ushaim has reported that whenever any person entered the fold of
Islaam, the Messenger of Allah used to teach them Salaat and thereafter he would
direct them to supplicate in these words, "O Allah! Forgive me. Have
mercy upon me. Guide me and forbear from me and provide me with sustenance
and salvation." (Muslim)

MEANING OF ACCEPTANCE

Ubaadah Ibne Saamit has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Whenever a
Muslim makes du'aa to Allah, He accepts his du'aa, or averts any similar kind of
trouble from him. (This happens) until he prays for something sinful or something
that may break the ties of kinship, (after which it is not accepted)." Upon this
the Companions of the Prophet of Allah said, "Then we shall supplicate most
frequently." Thereupon the Messenger of
Allah said , "Allah is the bestower of things in abundance." (Tirmizi)

DU'AA FOR OTHERS

Aboo Dardaa has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Whenever a Muslim
prays for his brother in his absence, the angels say, "The same be for you too!"
(Muslim)

Aboo Dardaa has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "The du'aa of a Muslim
for another Muslim (in his absence) is responded to, as long as he makes du'aa for
goodness and blessings. And the angel says, "Aameen! And may the same be for you
too! " (Muslim)

CLOSENESS TO ALLAH

Aboo Hurayrah has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "A servant becomes
nearest to his Lord when he is in prostration. (Sujudh) So increase (your) du'aa
in prostration." (Muslim)

DU'AA MAY NOT BE GRANTED

Aboo Hurayrah has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "The du'aa of each
one of you is granted if he does not demand it's answer quickly by saying, "I
prayed to my Lord, but it was not granted." (Muslim)
TIME OF ACCEPTANCE

Aboo Umaamah Al Baahily has reported that the Messenger of Allah was asked,"At
what time does the du'aa find the greatest response?" He replied, "A du'aa made
during the midnight and after the conclusion of the compulsory Salaat." (Tirmizi)

A COMPREHENSIVE DU'AA

Aboo Umaamah Al Baahily has reported that the Messenger of Allah made many du'aa,
which we could not memorise. Therefore we mentioned this to him, and he replied,
"Shall I tell you a comprehensive du'aa?" Then he said, "Say: O
Allah! I beg of you the good which your Nabee Muhammad has begged you of. And, I
seek your protection from the evil where from your Nabee Muhammad has sought your
protection. You are the one from whom help is sought and it is your responsibility
to communicate the truth. There is no power or strength except with Allah, The
Exalted, The Great." (Tirmizi)

DU'AA NOT TO ASK FOR

Jaabir Ibne Samurah has reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Do not invoke
curses on yourself, your children or your possessions, lest you should happen to
do it at a time which may coincide with the time of acceptance of du'aa, thus your
du'aa might be granted." (Muslim)
