Focus: Assurance of SaIvation - Being Sure of God's Love & For-
giveness, Security of our ReIationship with God.

After building rapport ("kumustahan), start going through the material.

Inside front cover

Read the first paragraph of the introduction in the inside front cover. You
may ask:

"What are some SOPs or Standard Operating Procedures that you
know?" (example: a junior military officer must salute a senior officer, or
else!).

Then relate his answer to the Christian life by saying something like:

"Christian life is not a set of SOPs or rules that we need to obey or else
we will be punished. Christian life is more than that!"

"Do you have personal rituals or routines?"

Follow up questions can be:
"During school days, what are the things that you usually do after waking
up?" (example: pray, take a bath, put on clothes, eat breakfast, go to
school).

How about the next day?" (same answers).

Then relate this to Christian life by saying something like:
"Christian life is not a set of activities that you do again and again like go-
ing to church on Sundays and praying before meals. There is more to
Christian life!"

"So, what is Christian life according to the statement we have just
read?" [Christian life is a personal relationship with God through Jesus
Christ.]

Continue reading through the inside front cover: "This is one in a series
of bookIets." Then read through the titles of the six follow-up lessons.
Build excitement and expectancy by saying something like:
!
"Each lesson is connected to the next and there is progression. that's
why I hope that you will not miss our meetings."
Give instruction on how to use the follow-up booklet:

" will ask you to read the questions. Then, you will discover the answer
by reading the given Bible passage. Tell me your answer, we will discuss
it, then you will write your answer in the booklet.

Open your small group time in prayer. Ask God for wisdom, empower-
ment of the Holy Spirit and that you will all enjoy the session.

On the basis of ReveIation 3:20, how do you know that
Christ is in your Iife? [Because He said that if open the door
of my life, He will come in. / Because of His promise.]
Page 2
Read through page 2. Discuss/emphasize points if you see as
needed.

Emphasize that Christ is the very essence or center of Christianity
and of us being Christians.

For dramatic effect, you may say: "If you take away CHRIST from
the word CHRISTIAN, what letters will remain?" [.A.N.] "I.A.N.
means, I Am Nothing without Christ."

Take a few more minutes and think about any unpIeasant ex-
perience or circumstance in your Iife for which you have not
yet thanked God. Again you are encouraged to write it down.
ASK MEMBERS TO LST AT LEAST ONE.

THANK GOD FOR THESE THINGS. PRAY.
What is the difference between thanking God and praising or worshipping
God? [Praising and worshipping focuses on God and His character.
Thanking God focuses on what God has done.]

Why is this difference important? [We can still find reason to praise God
even though we cannot see the things He is doing in our life. n short, we
always have reason to pray!]
Page 6: CONFESS YOUR SINS
1. According to PsaIms 66:18, what happens when we pray
and when there is unconfessed sin in our Iives? [THE
LORD WLL NOT LSTEN TO OUR PRAYERS.]

2. Read 1 John 1:9. What does God say He wiII do when we

2. Who is Jesus Christ? (1 John 5:20)

You may ask first your disciple for his/her personal answer. You
may also give your personal answer like: Best Friend or Savior.

Then, emphasize that the answer we will see from the passage
should be the first of the things we should know about Jesus
Christ. [TRUE GOD AND ETERNAL LFE]

3. If Christ had not risen from the dead, what wouId be the re-
suIt for us? (1 Corinthians 15:13-17)

[Possible answers:
1- Our preaching is useless. (v.14)
2- Our faith is useless. (v.14, 17)
3- We are false witnesses. We are liars. (v.15)
4- We are still in our sins. We did not received forgiveness. (v.17)]

You may emphasize Christ's resurrection by asking: "Since Christ
rose from the dead, are these four things still true in our life?" [NO]
"Then, the reverse is true!"

[reverse all the four statements.
1- Our preaching is useful.
2- Our faith is useful.
3- We are true witnesses.
4- We are saved from our sins.]

You may also ask these two questions for further clarification and
understanding.

What is the relationship of the resurrection to our faith? [ONE OF

reIationship to them? [BROTHERS AND SSTERS]

You may emphasize this truth by appreciating them that you are
now brothers/sisters in Christ. Also, say something like "We can
help one another get to know God more!

Transition statement to questions 5 and 6.

4. Read 1 ChronicIes 29:11-12. What does this passage teII us
about God's character? (Ask group members to list at least
five characteristics.)

Before taking time to pray, do a little activity. Ask group members
to say one thing they like about each member of the group. After-
wards, relate this activity to praising God. Praising God is like say-
ing the things we appreciate about Him.

Take a few minutes right now, to worship and praise God. TeII
Him how much you appreciate Him and why. Considering the
character of God described in 1 ChronicIes 29:11-12, teII God
your thoughts about Him.

If you are studying this bookIet with a friend, pray together.

formation if you have a deep knowledge of the passage already.

Check their work. Some may not get it at the first time. Offer en-
couragement. Give sincere praise if they got the whole passage

CLOSE IN PRAYER
PREVIEW TO FOLLOW-UP LESSON 2

After the closing prayer, review some of the truths learned in Lesson 1
like: all sins are forgiven, already a child of God, nothing and no one can
take you away from Christ.

Then, drop the line: "So, OK na ngayon to commit sin. kasi sure na tayo
sa ating relationship with God."

(Watch for their reaction. Wait for their answer.)

The point of this question is to make them think about the effects of sin in
our Christian life. Sin will not stop us from being children of God, but it still
has a negative effect in our Christian life.

Then say: "We will answer that question in the next lesson. what is the
effect of sin in our Christian life."

Don't forget to affirm the answer that it is not OK for us to continue to do
sin!

!"##"$%&' ,: Beginning your New Life in God's Word
Focus: mportance of Bible study and teach how to do personal bible
study through OA method.

You may start the topic by going through the contents of the Bible quickly:
its major divisions, book groupings and how they relate to one another.

The Bible is comprised of two main sections: the Old Testament, contain-
ing 39 books, and the New Testament, containing 27 books.

The Old Testament can be divided into five parts:
!" Pentateuch. The first five historical books, written by Moses, also are
called the books of the Law. These are GENESS, EXODUS, LEVT-
CUS, NUMBERS, and DEUTERONOMY.

2. Historical Books. The twelve books tell of the establishment of the
kingdom of srael, of srael's repeated turning from God to sin, and finally
of the Assyrian and Babylonian exile God's punishment. They are:

Pre-kingdom era: JOSHUA, JUDGES, RUTH
Duration of the kingdom: 1 SAMUEL, 2 SAMUEL, 1 KNGS, 2 KNGS, 1
CHRONCLES, 2 CHRONCLES
Exile and post-exile period: EZRA, NEHEMAH, ESTHER

$" Poetry. JOB, PSALMS, PROVERBS, ECCLESASTES, SONG OF
SONGS

4. Major Prophets. Written shortly before srael was taken into captivity
and during the exile, these books prophesy the coming Messiah and
other world events. They also contain the record of warning and impend-
ing disaster if srael did not turn from her wicked ways. SAAH,
JEREMAH, LAMENTATONS, EZEKEL, DANEL.

5. Minor prophets. They are called minor only because they are shorter,
not because they are less important. They mostly concern srael and the
coming Messiah. HOSEA, JOEL, AMOS, OBADAH, JONAH, MCAH,
NAHUM, HABAKKUK, ZEPHANAH, HAGGA, ZECHARAH, MALACH.

2. ReaIizing. [ndividual answers. Personal commitment to God.]

3. What wiII be the resuIt of keeping Christ's commandments?
(Read John 15:10) [WE WLL REMAN N HS LOVE.] This does
not mean that if we disobey God, then He no longer loves us.
When we disobey or commit sin, our fellowship with Him is broken
so we can not experience His love.

4. Where do we get the power to obey the wiII of God? (Read
PhiIippians 2:13) [FROM GOD] This highlights the importance of
depending on God and being filled with His Holy Spirit because it
is impossible to obey God and live a fruitful and victorious Chris-
tian life apart from Him.

Review. List some characteristics that you expect to occur as God
produces growth in your life.

2 Peter 1:5-9 gives us a picture of growth.
According to this passage, what is the primary hindrance to
growth?
Summarize. Remember God loves you unconditionally, just the way you
are. His boundless love toward you is not dependent upon the amount of
your growth.

You may ask: "From follow-up lesson 1, we learned that ALL our
sins are already forgiven Past, Present and Future. Why do we
need to confess our sins if we already received forgiveness
for our sins?" (When we confess, we are claiming the forgiveness
that has been already given us. The purpose of confession is to
restore our fellowship with God.)

According to 1 John 1:9, what are we to do with our sins?
[CONFESS OUR SNS]
What did God promise to do when we confess our sins?
[FORGVE US AND PURFY/CLEANSE US.]

LIST OF SINS ILLUSTRATION: In the days when the portions of the New
Testament was written, the list of sins meant an itemized bond nailed to
the prison door. It listed every crime for which the prisoner had been con-
victed. When the sentence was served or restitution paid, the authorities
removed the list and wrote paid in full. The prisoner used this as proof
that he could never be tried for those crimes again. The believer who
trusts Christ's payment for sin can never be tried again. You have full
pardon from God.

CLOSING & PREVIEW TO FOLLOW-UP LESSON 3

Ask if your disciple has any question or comment. Discuss as needed.
Then, go back to pages 4 and 5.

Ask: "How do you think a Spiritual man becomes Carnal?"
[When he chooses to disobey God and not to confess his sin.] You may
emphasize that being Spiritual does not mean being perfect. A Spiritual
person may still commit sin but he still chooses to obey God by confess-
ing it immediately.

Ask: "How can a Carnal man become a Spiritual man again?"
[By faith, confess his sin.]

Ask, "In your experience, what is more usual or natural to you. being
Carnal or being Spiritual? Which is easier?"
[common answer is: Carnal] You may emphasize the current reality that
even though there are many Christians in the Philippines/world, we have
little influence or impact for Jesus Christ because many Christians live in
carnality.

Ask, "What kind of life do you think God wants for you?" [Spiritual]
Ask, "What kind of life do you want to live?" [expected answer: Spiritual]

Explain the assignment.

Read the summary statement. You may emphasize that the "Spirit
-fiIIed Iife is a practicaI experience" meaning that it is a daily
commitment to be directed and empowered by God and to con-
tinue "abiding in Him or "having fellowship with Him.

One of the manifestations of being filled with the Holy Spirit is the
bold and effective sharing of the gospel. That is why, encourage
your disciples to share the gospel to others using the Four Spiritual
Laws booklet.

TRANSITION TO FOLLOW UP 4
You may say, "The Holy Spirit can empower you to live a Christ-directed
life. As you continue to breathe spiritually (confess your sin and yield
control to Christ), you will experience a deepening fellowship with God
enabling you to grow in Christian maturity.

That will be our next topic, Beginning Your New Life of Growth in Christ.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY TOGETHER:
You may tag along your disciple in witnessing. You will orient him first on
what you will do together.

1. You will explain what you will do.
2. Ask him/her to observe and take note of what you will do during wit-
nessing. Also, ask your disciple to pray for you as you witness.
3. When you end your witnessing time, take a few moments to talk
about his/her observations. You can motivate him/her to do the
same.
4. Close in prayer, remembering to pray for the person you just wit-
nessed to.
