RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Research Assistant, Lawrence Latour, Ph.D., Martin Cota, Henry Jackson Foundation/Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine in collaboration with NIH, August 2011 Present Description: The Evaluation, Pathogenesis, and Outcome of Subjects with or Suspected Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Study examines the pathology seen on MRI in subjects presenting with head injury and suspected non-penetrating TBI, characterizes the natural evolution of TBI for up to the first three months after head injury through imaging, measures of cognition, function, and quality of life, and evaluates the relationship between clinical, laboratory, and radiological variables by exploratory analyses toward the generation of hypotheses for future testing. Duties: - Recruitment: Screens patients by using the hospital electronic system and clinical team for any signs of head injury. Presents an overview of the study to see if patients are interested in enrolling. - Data and Study Management: Collects subject history, details of injury, and MRI interpretations. Observes and administers assessments of cognitive functioning. Scans subject documents into NIH computer database. - Blood Collection: Assists research nurses with collecting blood samples from subjects and sends specimens to the lab to be analyzed. - Research Collaboration: Attends weekly research team meetings, neurology rounds with physicians, and presentations. Presents subject history and cases of TBI to physicians. Undergraduate Research Assistant, Child Health and Behavior Study Laboratory; Katherine Ross, Ph.D., Boston University, November 2009 May 2011 Description: Funded by the NIMH, the Child Health and Behavior Study evaluates risk and resilience factors among contextually disadvantaged youth. Research examines the interactions between factors specific to the child (e.g., neuropsychological variables) and context (e.g., family, peers, school, neighborhood) in influencing emotional and social adjustment. The

primary focus has been in childhood externalizing problems and symptoms that commonly co-occur with externalizing problems (e.g., depression, anxiety) in at-risk samples. Duties: - Data and Study Management: Coded behavioral actions and interactions of target children with peers in playground setting. Observed and administered assessments of cognitive functioning, verbal learning, expressive language, and social pragmatic language of schoolage youth in laboratory setting. Performed data checking and entry. - Research Collaboration: Attended weekly research team meetings and presentations. WORK EXPERIENCE Emergency Preparedness Internship, Andrea Valenta, RN, Ann Marie Madden, RN, Mark Smith, MD, Washington Hospital Center ER One Institute, June 2007 January 2011 Description: Project ER One is the federally funded initiative to develop the design concepts, features, and specifications for an all-risks ready emergency care facility, optimized to be able to provide emergency medical care during acts of terrorism and epidemics and built to function fully as a hospital emergency department during daily operations. Duties: - Inventory and Maintenance: Inventoried medical items in the hospital emergency ready room and replaced expired materials. - Team Leader: Led a group of volunteer victims with make-up induced injuries through triage and to hospital destinations in a city-wide mass casualty incident drill. Health Information Management Technician, Terrie McCray, Virginia Hospital Center, June 2008 August 2008 Description: The Health Information Management department is responsible for the maintenance of health records in the hospital. Duties: - Patient Chart Organization and Scanning: Organized documents in patient charts and scanned patient charts into the hospital computer system. Office Assistant, Neg May Watling, George Washington University Emergency Health Services, October 2006 June 2007 Description: GWU Health Services prepares emergency medical service providers for management, educational, and leadership roles as initial supervisors, mid-level managers, and administrators. The department trains students in emergency preparedness, incident management, deployment, disaster planning and response, special operations, illness and injury prevention, and homeland security. Duties: - Filing and Data Entry: Organized documents in files and entered students grades into the computer system. - Mail Pick-up and Delivery: Obtained and delivered mail in various departments of the university and the GWU hospital.

Summer Medical Internship, George Washington University School of Medicine, June 2005 July 2005 Description: George Washington University is the largest institution of higher education in the District of Columbia. This internship provided opportunities for coursework, research, and clinical observations. Duties: - Human Anatomy and Physiology Student: Studied human anatomy and physiology in a cadaver lab. - Cardiology Observation: Shadowed cardiologists and studied the procedures to cardiac surgery. - Medical Research and Presentation: Researched depression and its impact on the brain and body and presented a PowerPoint presentation. VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE Patient Care Volunteer, The Health Services for Children (HSC) Pediatric Center, July 2012 November 2012 Description: The HSC Pediatric Center is a pediatric hospital that provides quality rehabilitative and transitional care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with special health care needs in a supportive, culturally competent, and respectful environment. The center participates in related local, regional, and national projects with government, private, and philanthropic organizations. Duties: - Patient Interaction: Helped transport patients and participated in activities such as reading to patients and helping with school work. - Event Planning: Helped staff plan and organize special events, activities, and outings for the patients. - Environment Maintenance: Cleaned dirty toys and picked up after the patients to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Student Volunteer, American Medical Student Association, August 2007 May 2011 Description: The American Medical Student Association is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. Members are medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and practicing physicians. Founded in 1950, the organization continues its commitment to improving medical training and the nation's health.
