RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Research Assistant, Lawrence Latour, Ph.D., Martin Cota, Henry Jackson Foundation/Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine in collaboration with NIH, August 2011 Present Description: The Evaluation, Pathogenesis, and Outcome of Subjects with or Suspected Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Study examines the pathology seen on MRI in subjects presenting with head injury and suspected non-penetrating TBI, characterizes the natural evolution of TBI for up to the first three months after head injury through imaging, measures of cognition, function, and quality of life, and evaluates the relationship between clinical, laboratory, and radiological variables by exploratory analyses toward the generation of hypotheses for future testing. Duties: - Recruitment: Screens patients by using the hospital electronic system and clinical team for any signs of head injury. Presents an overview of the study to see if patients are interested in enrolling. - Data and Study Management: Collects subject history, details of injury, and MRI interpretations. Observes and administers assessments of cognitive functioning. Scans subject documents into NIH computer database. - Blood Collection: Assists research nurses with collecting blood samples from subjects and sends specimens to the lab to be analyzed. - Research Collaboration: Attends weekly research team meetings, neurology rounds with physicians, and presentations. Presents subject history and cases of TBI to physicians. Undergraduate Research Assistant, Child Health and Behavior Study Laboratory; Katherine Ross, Ph.D., Boston University, November 2009 May 2011 Description: Funded by the NIMH, the Child Health and Behavior Study evaluates risk and resilience factors among contextually disadvantaged youth. Research examines the interactions between factors specific to the child (e.g., neuropsychological variables) and context (e.g., family, peers, school, neighborhood) in influencing emotional and social adjustment.
