Research Paper in Writing in the Discipline

Im Christian Carl F. Recede taking Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the National Teachers College. Im going to conduct a research on why students should join clubs and organization in school. This research will help convince students to join clubs and organizations in school in future. Extracurricular organizations are beneficial to college students. They help bring students and faculty together, let students interact in a non-formal atmosphere, and allow students to strengthen their leadership and communications skills. These are at least what books, articles, and advisors will tell you, but what do the students actually think about these organizations? Researchers say that with a higher education comes leaders and that educational attainment was a key indicator of an individuals leadership ability. Again, these statements cover what makes leaders, not what drives students to participate in organizations, a high factor for the college experience. In todays society, employers are hiring students more on what they can do, not their grade point average. Participating in extracurricular organizations shows future employers that students can handle school, work, and other activities, which in turn shows responsibility and organization. Do students really understand this? As college life becomes increasingly diversified and colorful in recent years, debates has been raised among those who state that participating activities and clubs has the same importance as their own classes, and those who still consider their academic projects should be the most important things. Personally, I am the former kind of person, for that in my view, extracurricular could bring students with good friends, social and working skills, and of course

could enrich students' life.

Definitely, organizations and clubs make people easy to become friends, even good friends of others. They have the same appetites and hobbies; hence they could play or chat together and have fun. They have the same goal to achieve, hence they could work hard and fight together and trust each other. Organizations and clubs create opportunities for them to be with each other, which is beneficial to enhance their friendship. As members of an organization, students work not for the money, but sometimes for make acquaintance with others and have a good friendship.

In addition, entering the organizations and activity clubs enables students to learn a lot of working and social skills. Take students union for example. When students enter students union the first year as associates, they follow the instructions from their own chair and try to make the best preparation of every activities they are assigned. In their first year, they could gain many useful fundamental experiences and know a lot about how to be more efficient when they enter the society several years later. And in their second and third years working in the students union, they mainly play important roles as the manager and leader of the community; they would decide what kind of activities they are going to hold, and how to chase the unions future. Isnt there any benefit of pay attention to the academic class? Of course the answer would be yes; that it cannot be denied that study is very important for every student. Study hard helps us be good quality people, and having completing the academic demands we may find satisfying jobs. People who overemphasize their activities may be addicted and receive a bad score, while those who can balance their organizations and studies would probably have colorful spare time a promising future. In sum, organizations and activities could help students make good friends who may really helpful and learn precious knowledge and experiences which are

beneficial to their nowadays life and their future. As long as people find the balance of the study and activities, they would always have colorful lives.

Community colleges across the country provide students with both academic and non-academic clubs to promote personal and professional development. As Scottsdale Community College describes, Participation in the work of various clubs and organizations on campus provides students an opportunity to acquire leadership, planning, and social skills that are important for successful living.

Community college club and activity opportunities are essential for students interested in creating a well-developed resume for job and career applications. As the Associated Press describes, clubs and extra-curricular activities are extremely important in helping students develop lifelong good working habits. Students involved in extra-curricular activities learn how to work as part of a team towards a common goal. Students also learn valuable character traits such as pride, productivity, and organization. Its the same drill students get over and over again; join on-campus organizations. The reasons may change, but the fact of the matter is that every college campus boasts an extensive list of clubs and organizations, tailored to meet the need or desire of just about any student regardless of their interest. So even though by now most students are beginning to become battered by their workload, overwhelmed by their work schedule, and a select few are beginning to question why they get out of bed in the morning at all, its important to explore why all students should take that extra step towards on-campus involvement, gleaner.rutgers.edu said in their blog about clubs and organizations in schools.

According to studymode.com, college clubs have been a part of university life since the very first fraternities and sororities were created. If the student chooses, he or she can make college an experience to remember by joining a club. They range from things like journalism and math to sports such as soccer or lacrosse. People who join these clubs tend to have a background in the topic or at the very least, an interest in learning about it. There is a club for everything you can think of, and if there isnt, it is not that hard to start one. Clubs in college, although similar to those in high school, are quite different in the types of people and the variety of cultures brought together by the sheer size and caliber of a college. The importance and benefits of college clubs cannot be numbered, not just for the students but also for the community.

Another blog by www.sfu.ca, a major benefit of joining a club or a student organization is the valuable connections that you make with other students; joining clubs and organization means you are networking with individuals who could provide you with job opportunities in the near future. Finding a job after graduation can be a difficult task, however through being involved, the potential to draw on your personal network will increase significantly through being part of a club or student union or organization. After all, approximately 80% of jobs today come from utilizing your personal network, so utilize your network!! Although not all faculties may have clubs associated with their field of study. Networking with students within the same field of study is a bonus, because the people who are volunteering their spare time for a club are usually the same people who will be successful once they graduate. Why not build strong relationships now to help yourself once you are in the workplace?

NTC is a commuter campus, where a majority of a students degree is spent going from home to school without engaging with other students or feeling part of the university. An advantage of being part of a student club or organization is feeling closer to the school, while building valuable relationships to support you in your university career. While studying at university is essential in achieving good grades, it is equally important to give yourself a break from your studies. Joining a student club or organization, enables you to socialize with like-minded students like yourself, while giving you a well needed social break. In addition, partaking in hobbies or interests outside your field gives off the impression of being a wellrounded individual to an employer when you are looking for a job

In college, so many students have so much free time that they dont know what to do with it. Therefore, instead of being productive and doing their work they think they can push it off because they always think that they will have more time later. However, when students join clubs they have a more structured schedule so they know that they have to be at a certain place, at a certain time and it helps them to focus on their work when they have free time because they have other responsibilities that they must work on later. The focused nature of extracurricular activities allows students to explore their interests while still in school. Obvious choices for extracurricular are those that match current skills or passions. A student with a strong singing voice may naturally lean toward the show choir, for example. These groups and activities also give kids a chance to test out potential interests. Joining the debate team is a way for a teen to test out his public speaking skills. A high school student considering a career as a non-profit manager might join a community service group to explore the field. Also being a member of any clubs and organization in school automatically gives you a feeling of closeness to other members, you can share something that other people are not a part of. You can ask for some advice to your co-members if you have some problems and you cant handle it all by yourself. You and the other members of the club you join are like brothers and sisters there. Brotherhood in clubs and organization is strong because everyone helps one another. While helping each other you also knowing each other and that are one of the benefits gradguard.com said about their blog.

In order to test ideas about why students should join clubs and organizations in school I am going to conduct a survey on thirty college students. They will answer some question related to my topic. There were five questions that were asked of the students reflected their characteristics as to why students should join clubs and organizations in school. This survey consists of students enrolled in different schools. The students that were randomly chosen consisted of the following: National Teachers College 16 Universidad de Manila 4 EARIST 1 STI 3 Centro Escolar University 2 Far Eastern University 3 University of the East 1

All surveys handed out were completed. Only college students were allowed to participate in this survey. A total of 30 students were surveyed. I compiled all the data receive from the survey and check the significance of their answer. Most of the students answer the survey said that joining clubs and organizations can improve the skills of the students. Almost 85% of the students said that. This involvement is quite high for college, thus I analyzed questions to find out why these students think that joining clubs and organizations can improve their skills at such a high level. I think they said that because in Math club for example you can learn their new things you dont know in math. You can enrich yourself by just joining a club and I think that is the main reason why they say that.

In order to answer the question why students should join clubs and organizations in school simplistically, I broke the survey down into question reflecting answers of why students should join clubs and organizations in school. The following are the reasons that students join, all are the largest valid percent. 24% stated that they strongly agree that belonging to organizations is important to them. 24% stated that they slightly agree that they join organizations because their friends are in them. 34% stated that they slightly agree that they join organizations because organizations look good on their resume. 26% strongly disagree that they join organizations because their advisor urged them to. 30% strongly disagree that they participate in organizations, but are not active. 30% moderately agree that joining organizations helps them to grow professionally. 66% agree that joining organizations helps them to strengthen leadership skills. 43% strongly agree that joining organizations helps them to build a greater communications network. 40% strongly agree that joining organizations helps them to strengthen their communications skills. 36% strongly agree that they join organizations because they believe in what they stand for.

The 66% percent of students that said joining organizations helps them to strengthen their leadership skills. According to them joining clubs and organizations can be a good training ground if you want to be a leader because in clubs and organizations they will teach you how to become a good leader by teaching you to be also a good follower. A famous quote says that a good leader is a good follower. Its true because how can you become a good leader if dont know how to make your followers follow you. You should know what a follower feels so you can easily instruct them to do whatever they need to do as a follower.

Conclusion:
After analyzing the information provided by the student surveys, it is clear that the National Teachers College is quite active in the offered student organizations. It is suggested that in a later study more students should be surveyed to know what they think on joining clubs and organizations in school to convince them to join if they think negatively on joining organizations in school. When correlating the reasons students do and do not participate in extracurricular organizations, our results came out quite significant. In addition, it is what most people expected. Students participate in organizations to improve their communications skills and enlarge their communications network. The number one reason students do not participate is because of the lack of time. These results are new because they have been proven scientifically, but are what the collegiate population hypothesized. What strategies can be implemented to improve student participation. The result that was most astonishing to us was that the students that are most active are sophomores. In our mind, we thought that freshmen would be more active because they are trying to find their nitch in college. In resurveying the students, we might want to, again, sample a larger population because the significance of this finding was not too high. When examining our findings, the strategies that need to be implemented into college programs are quite clear. Though this study was small, we had some pretty strong findings with large significances.
