1 Read this text about a famous chef and answer the questions. 1 Who is Jamie Oliver? 2 Why is he so famous in Britain? Jamie Oliver is one of Britains most famous chefs, especially well-known for his TV shows and his charity food campaigns. Jamies parents had a pub in Essex, England, (1). He was working at a very famous British-Italian restaurant when he was discovered by a BBC producer. He soon started his own cookery TV series called The Naked Chef, (2). Jamies Kitchen, Jamies School Dinners, Jamies Great Italian Escape, Return to School Dinners, Jamies Chef, Jamie at Home, Jamies Ministry of Food and Jamie Does. But Jamie didnt want to stop there. He opened a restaurant called Fifteen in London (3). Today four of these charity restaurants exist and they have become very famous. Next, Jamie turned his attention to the quality of food offered in British schools and he started a campaign to get children and young people to eat better. He tried to motivate the kids and school catering professionals to enjoy cooking and eating healthy lunches (4). Since then, he has continued trying to improve unhealthy diets and poor cooking habits in the United Kingdom and the United States. Jamie Olivers speciality is Italian cuisine, but he also has a very broad international cooking repertoire: he especially likes Mediterranean food. In one of his latest TV series, he travels across Europe and North Africa, cooking local dishes. Jamie has shown us the delights of international food, and he has inspired people around the world (5). 1 Read the text and underline the words and expressions related to sport. The rst recorded ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in Greece in 776 BC. Only men could participate and competing athletes had to be free citizens, speak Greek and compete in the nude. The Ancient Olympic Games were always held at Olympia and they were a celebration of the almighty Zeus, the most important and powerful God of ancient Greek mythology. In the modern Olympics, there are only opening and closing ceremonies, however, in the ancient Olympics, there were celebrations and rituals all the way through the ve days of the games, including enormous ceremonies and feasts. The ancient Olympics were celebrated over the next 580 years and events were added and taken away. Classic competitions included: pentathlon, foot run, long jump, javelin and discus, wrestling, boxing, equestrian and pankration, a combination of boxing and wrestling. The Olympic winners received a wreath made of a sacred olive tree branch.
