Christ the King Mission Statement

I was blind

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Calling all High School Teens: We have another busy summer planned! Some of our events:
DISCOVER Retreat-

Reflecting on Gods Word

Most of us can recognize times when we are in the dark and occasions when we carry darkness in our hearts, just as there are moments when we feel enlightened and find that our vision is clear. It is quite another thing to become identified with darkness or with light. The first words of todays reading from the Letter to the Ephesians stand out for their boldness: You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord (Ephesians 5:8). We get a glimpse of what it means to be light in the Lord both from Samuel, who finally sees as God sees, and in the courageous behavior of the man born blind after Jesus has healed him. Samuel anoints Israels greatest king, David, and the man born blind comes to faith in Jesus as Lord. The man born blind is one of those strong figures found in Johns Gospel. Like the woman at the well, we never learn his name but we come to know his heart. His speech is straightforward, whether speaking to his neighbors, the Pharisees, or Jesus. You can hear the gradual dawning of faith as he responds to those around him, from the simple He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see to He is a prophet, to his answer to Jesus question about having faith in the Son of man standing before him, I do believe, Lord (John 9:15, 17, 38). In the beginning God spoke. Those first words have never stopped bringing about what they said: Let there be light (Genesis 1:3).

Water for Life

A Lenten Service Project Christ the King Parish
We are half way through Lent. How has water consumption changed? Every time we turn on the faucet, we have access to fresh, clean water, but did you know many of our products we use take an excessive amount of water to produce? For instance, for every liter of water we drink, it takes three liters to make it. We need 8,137 gallons of water to produce about 5 pounds of beef, or 5,812 gallons of water to make one pair of jeans. Thats a lot of water just to make stuff we want. And what about those water bottles? Check this YouTube video out on the Story of Bottled Water: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se12y9hSOM0 Change your habits, Save a life!

Sunday, March 30 4:00 pm in Church Christ the King Church

WHAT IS THE PARISH/PASTOR TRANSITION COMMITTEE?

MEETING SATURDAY, APRIL 5TH AT 9:30AM IN THE PLC
This committee is under the leadership of the Parish Pastoral Council. The idea was initiated together by the Parish Pastoral Council Chairman Mark Shutoch and Fr. Jarosz. The purpose if for members of the committee to look at those areas of Chris the King Life that our new Pastor, Fr. Jeff should be aware of during his transition time. The members will also create positive and helpful ways to transition the parish community from twelve years of leadership with Fr. Jarosz to new pastoral leadership. As usual in parish life these action items will be given as recommendations to parish staff so that as staff and parish members we can use together. This was Fr. Jaroszs goal over these years for all of us, to serve as a team. Where one or two are gathered, there am I in your midst. This initiative will also assist our parish staff, organizations, clergy and councils. Change is not always easy, yet we take what we have learned, from each other and build from the past says Fr. Peter.
