My Life, My Health Campaign!

NDCS launched a new campaign on 4th February 2014. What is it? A campaign to help GPs and Doctors surgeries to become more D/deaf friendly. It has been set up by the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) made up of 17 young D/deaf people and the NDCS. They have created resources for GPs, young D/deaf people and their parents. Including the wallet sized card in with this mail out. Deaf teenagers can show their GP this card with details of their communication needs. For more information go to www.ndcs.org.uk/mylifemyhealth

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask or to put yourself forward we would love for you to join us. Email peterborough@ndcsgroup.org.uk

Toddler Group visited Father Christmas!

This was an amazing magical morning when the Deaf Toddler Group went to the Winter Wonderland at Baytree Garden Centre. They rode on a magical train pulled by Reindeer to Santas magical house that was run by his jolly elves. Every member got a special present and a baby Christmas tree to plant in their garden. We topped the morning off by making sure Santas Reindeers had enough carrots to take him back to the North Pole to carry on making Christmas presents for Christmas Eve!

We have an audiologist who comes and does the children's ear moulds and other professionals to answer questions. It's a really lovely welcoming group with a relaxed atmosphere. At the moment Brenda from 'Communicating Hands' is running a family sign course. We are all learning lots of great sign language through songs and games.

Youth Group events

Pizza Express meal in Huntingdon: In October last year some of our youth group members got a train together and went to Huntingdon. They went to Pizza Express and enjoyed a three course meal with the Cambridge Deaf Youth Group. For one of the girls, it was the first time she had been on a train without her family, so she gained some valuable skills and gained confidence in using a train. Everyone loved the meal and had a great time!! You can have a look at these pictures and see if you can spot who they are?

Interested?
Are you aged 11 and over? Interested in becoming involved with the youth group? Sign? Talk? Both? Use implants? Hearing aids? Or none? You are welcome to join in and become one of us, please contact Katie Bocking on text/email on 07718134678 or email bestfriendsno1@hotmail.com

Ice skating in Bretton, Peterborough

In December last year our youth group decided to go visit the ice rink and try to do some ice skating. There was even music and disco lights which some enjoyed! After a bit of skating we all had a meal in the ice rink cafe, as soon as we had finished our meal we hurried off to get back on the rink and do some more skating! Some of the members found it funny when others kept falling over on the ice. Everyone had a great time and would love to do it again in the future.

Please also let us know any activities you would like to do for this year, dont forget to bring your friends along!!

Remember this youth club member?

Its young Chloe Peacock doing what she does best.gymnastics. Its not just PDDCS that thinks shes fab, shes been selected to join the County Squad. Chloe trialled with a number of girls from her own and different clubs in the County at Huntingdon gym where she was picked to represent the Cambs County Squad. She had her first competition in Ipswich recently. We wish her all the best and good luck for the future.

PDDCS went to see the Pantomine

PDDCS members and their families had a very enjoyable visit to see Cinderella, it was a fantastic occasion with everyone having an enjoyable time. The interpreter did an excellent job, lessons have been learned as to where best to seat people for easier access to the interpreter along with a view of the performance itself. We sold all 80 tickets, so thank you for everybody for attended. We are hoping to book a group of tickets again for this Christmas/early next year! Oh yes we are!
