2009 Holmes Juried Art Show Official Registration

Historic Holmes Theatre, Detroit Lakes

“Opening Artist Reception” Thursday, November 19, 5:00-7:30 p.m.


Art Show: Friday and Sunday, November 20 & 22, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, November 21 10:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Registration deadline: September 25, 2009, to be included in all promotional materials.
All artwork must be original artwork and original to this show. Types of artwork accepted: Paintings, collages, framed media, mixed media,
sculpture, pottery, glasswork and photography. All other artwork must be accepted by the show jury. Each artist will be responsible to set up
their own 8’ x 30”display space as indicated in the show guidelines. A table may be provided if requested. Tables are limited, Electrical
outlets are available but also limited. Set up: Wednesday or Thursday from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Additional hours available with prior arrange-
ments. Show boutique items must be handcrafted by artist. Prints, cards, unframed work, pieces shown at a previous Holmes Art Show and
other small items are welcome. Boutique space is limited, table space is available. Please make prior arrangements for free standing displays.
Pick up: Sunday between 5pm-6pm or make arrangements with the Holmes Theatre to pick up art. Artwork left after the show will be stored
and the Holmes Theatre-DLCCC will not be responsible for any loss or damage.

Exhibitors Juried Art Show Guidelines 2009

1. Must be 18 years of age or older


2. The entry fee of $20.00 must be submitted to reserve a space in the show.
3. The Holmes Theatre will collect a consignment fee of 20% of each sale.
4. The Holmes Theatre will collect money for all sales and will include tax at the time of the sales. Credit cards will be
accepted. Each artist must submit a completed State of Minnesota Revenue Operator
Certificate of Compliance. If you do not have a MN State tax ID number, please contact us for assistance. A
PDF version of the form is available on our website or we can mail you one.
5. Each artist is asked to submit a small biography with their registration, for publicity purposes.
6. The Holmes Theatre Art Show has a limited participants.
7. Completed and signed application form must accompany artwork.
8. Artwork must be new to this art show.
9. All artwork in the show area must be original and appropriately framed.
10. Exhibitors must display artwork on appropriate easels or display racks.
11. Table 30” x 8’ will be reserved on a first come first serve basis.
12. Each artist will be allowed an area of 30” x 8’ to display their work.
13. Each piece of art must include the Art Show card with title, medium, price or Not for Sale,
must be legible.
14. Artwork in show area will remain at the Holmes Art Show for the duration of the show.
15. Purchased works (original) will be marked “sold” and should be picked up at the end of the show. Money will be
collected and arrangements to pick up the art work, other than the designated pick up date and times, will be made with
Holmes Theatre.
16. Artist business cards and brochures may be displayed in appropriate holders with artwork. An artist’s nameplate
will be provided for their exhibit.
17. Artwork is limited to original work only, no photographs, unless considered to be original artwork, or electronically
reproduced works will be allowed in the show area.
18. All artwork and personal display items must be removed at the end of the show.
19. The Holmes Art Show committee reserves the right to reject any artwork.
20. Participants must follow the selection process.
21. Artists are encouraged to donate a piece of artwork as a door prize.
22. Artists must be willing to provide a sample of artwork if requested by the jury.
23. The Art Show Committee and/or the Holmes Theatre are not responsible for loss or damage to participant’s items.

Boutique Area will be cash and carry: Prints, cards, unframed work, and other handcrafted items

1. All items to be sold in the Boutique area must be properly labeled with printed artist’s name and retail price.
We will be collecting tax; please do not label anything tax included.
2. Reproduction prints, photos, cards, etc. are welcome in the boutique area. Original artwork from past Holmes Art
Shows is also welcome in this area.
3. All items in the boutique area must be in baskets, on appropriate holders or in browse boxes-no “cardboard” boxes
unless disguised.
4. Framed work must be on easels or appropriately displayed in holders. (No laying down on tables)
5. Jewelry, ornaments, home and garden pieces and other items must be handcrafted.

CONTEST RULES
1. Artists must design an original work of art that will be used to promote the Sixth Annual Holmes Art Show at the Historic
Holmes Theatre.

2. A photo of the work will be part of an 11x17 full color poster. The poster will also include art show information. It is
recommended that the digital photo be taken with a high resolution camera. Arrangements may be made to have the piece
photographed by the Holmes Theatre. Please contact us for arrangements.

3. The work of art is not limited to paper formats. 3-D entries such as sculptures, collages, glass projects, etc., are also accepted.
An artist may submit more than one entry for the poster contest.

4. Artists may submit via email: a digital photo of the piece along with your name, phone number and the name of your piece to
vicky@dlccc.org by Monday, September 18, at 8 a.m. Other arrangements may be made by calling Vicky Williams at 218-844-
4221 Ext. 106, or bring the above to the Holmes Theatre prior to the deadline.

5. The art will be judged by a committee, and the winner will be notified on or before Friday, September 25. Winning piece
remains property of the artist; however, the piece will be on display at the Historic Holmes Theatre October 1 through Novem-
ber 22. The Holmes Art Show reserves the right to use photographs of the piece for promotional materials. Additional display
area may be available to show additional pieces of art.
