The organization was formed to contribute to the empowerment of women in Nigeria and the promotion of womens human right through lobbying, advocacy, provision of legal aid, training, among other strategies.

WELA serves mostly marginalized and disadvantaged women and girls including:
Widows, orphans, women and girls affected by HIV/AIDS

Violation of their rights through domestic violence, divorced women, poor or less privileged women or girls
To end the cycle of violence against women in respect to domestic crimes being perpetrated against women in Nigeria

Create a media campaign that demonstrates the importance of regular donations


Convince people that its their regular donations to WELA that will allow them to continue and increase their work

To create awareness of: Government laws against illegal practices against women Activities of WELA

To solicit the support of government, companies and high net worth individuals to raise a sum of N200,000,000 over a period of one year towards achieving its set goals in Nigeria
