My MBTI Assessment In general, based on the psychological instrument of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), I have the overall orientation and preference favoring extraversion, sensing, feeling and judging which I will explain further in the next few paragraphs.

My MBTI scoresheet showed that in Column I, I have checked seven (7) as and two (2) bs which means that I am Extrovert rather than Introvert. Under this column it explains by Myers-Briggs how we obtained our energy. It was also described if what are the dominant characteristics of each personality. Since I am identified as extrovert rather than introvert, if I will be asked affront, I usually answer straight from the heart and from what processed knowledge I stored in my subconscious. I usually act fast and do later the reflection of the pros and cons of my action which is of course not wise. Thats why I really dont like to be taken off guard or be given a rush task that require immediate action. Also I really did enjoy and feel motivated by the variety and change of my relationship with other people. In my work as coordinator and focal person of different interagency commitments of the agency, I derive so much inspiration and happiness from my friendly relationship with other people and other public servant. For example, just recently we conducted the training on the science communication of biopesticides which involved the participation of field officers from different regions of the country. My being extrovert helped me a lot in the coordination aspect of the task. I value and respect my co-workers in the field which made me easy to establish rapport with them, obtain their cooperation and successfully implement the task given as expected. In Column II, it showed that I have stronger preference favoring Sensing rather than Intuition in the score of seven (7) for as and two (2) for bs respectively. This column explains how people take in information (learning). According to the concept of MyersBriggs Type Indicator, I am mentally living in the NOW or the current opportunities. I am always using common sense in instinctual manner to provide practical solution to problems. I prefer to have concrete and clear information and data before giving decision. I am not also comfortable with guessing. I also utilize and improvise past experiences and information. I would have rich recall of the details. The above Myers-Briggs description of my personality in how I take in the information is true. I always believe the importance of common sense in dealing with problems or tasks even as a government rural development employee. If the decision is not practical, I believe it is not worth pursuing. Being an applied scientist by profession, I am trained to rely on and value concrete and clear information in my decision making. It is in my principle that scientific evidence is a must in every decision. How can we rely on our intuition alone if we have data at hand ready for assessment and evaluation for the benefit of humanity? There are people who have strong intuitive skills but majority have not. Maybe I am one of those who do not have high intuitive skills. Moreover, in our area of work, science is everything to us to deliver efficient services to the public. We regulate all of the agricultural chemicals in the country which along the way at some level, we converge with the experts from academe, Department of Health and Department of Interior and Local Government (e.g LGU, PNP and CIDG) and those products allowed for distribution and use in the Philippine agriculture soil

shall be scientifically tested for their safety and efficacy to ensure the protection of people and environment from risk or hazard associated in using the agrochemicals. In Column III, in the score of two (2) as and seven (7) bs, it showed that I have preference and orientation favoring Feeling rather than Thinking. This column explains how people make decisions. According to Myers-Briggs, I employ instinctively the personal feeling on people in my decision making. I am also sensitive to peoples needs and reactions. In decision making, I tend to seek consensus and popular opinions. Further, it claimed that I am unsettled to disharmony or conflict in the environment. This true since, if I noticed worsening factions in the office, I am not comfortable in my job because the staff from other division have the tendency not to cooperate with me if they identified me not to have shared their sentiments. I end up mending the relationship between people or fixing bridges for them obtain peace and we can continue with our job as rural development agents. In Column IV, I have checked five (5) as and four (4) bs which showed that I have almost balance preferences and orientation favoring both Judging and Perceiving, although I am more of the former. This column describes the type of lifestyle and work habits. I am almost a balance of both characteristics, whichever dominates maybe only depend on the situation. But I am more of Judging which according to Myers-Briggs I am always focus on task related action. This makes me utilize targets, dates and standard routines to manage my life personally and professionally. But I notice that I also possess the characteristic of perceiving personality since I love mixing work and play even in a multi-tasking mode. In a bureaucratic agency like us with limited personnel, we need to focus and do multitasking to meet our objectives in order to deliver public services to our different stakeholders countrywide since the expected output of the organization is annually monitored and evaluated by the Commission on Audit (COA).

My leadership profile through LPI test In the different columns of responses in LPI test showed that I have got scores such as 56, 60, 58, 59 and 60 for columns 1,2,3,4 and 5 respectively. Based on the LPI concept by Kouzes and Possner (1995), each column represent leadership practices which identified as Model the Way for 1st column, Inspire the Shared Vision for 2nd column, Challenge the process for 3rd column, Enable Others to Act for 4th column and Encourage the Heart for 5th column. Based on my indicated highest scores in columns 2 and 5, I am more inclined to practice leadership style such as to Inspire the Shared Vision and Encourage the Heart of the people.

According to the concept of leadership challenge model by Kouzes and Possner (1995), my first highest score in Column 2 which tagged as leader that Inspire the Shared Vision showed that I have the passionate belief that I can make a difference. I admit that the LPI test score assessment is true since I really have this inner belief that if I act passionately and persistently on things, my path will be defined that could allow me to contribute positively, most especially in the mission of the organization to ensure production of safe and quality foods for Filipinos through the use of less toxic and naturally compatible agricultural chemical inputs. Frequently, I am just being sincere in everything I do to get the attention of my superiors, subordinates or my co team members to pursue plans and programs for the successful the implementation of one of our mandates in the protection of the environment through convergence activities with private stakeholders, DA, DENR and LGU through gradual and subtle persuasions to become actively involved. Take for example the 2010 interagency program on the Proper Disposal of Agrochemical Containers in Benguet. Through a series of lobbying, meetings and coordination with the stakeholders, we able to implement the aforesaid project by instigating to them that all of us have the common interest and responsibility in the proper disposal of toxic container, therefore, we able to set up a Toxic Container Junk Shop system in the area and the collected every toxic container from the farmers is given a certain amount. The private stakeholder/chemical registrants provided the technical and financial needs of the project, the DA had conducted the IEC in the area; the LGU had maintained and manned the Junk Shop, while the DENR had helped us disposed the collected containers to the license Thermo Combusting facility that operates in accordance to the provision of Clean Air Act of the country. In every endeavor at hand I usually envision what would be the future or total impact of our actions including the threats and opportunities arising from the visualized future. The total imagination of the desired organization is an inspiration for a day to day implementation of our traditional and innovative activities. Before the start of the day I always picture out a progressing organization that always actively adhere to its main reason of existence that is to ensure sustained agricultural production for both local and international needs without compromising the ability of the agricultural natural resources to continue provide sustaining bounty to the next generation. The other column where I have also the highest score of 60 is column 5 which describes a leadership practice through Encouraging the Heart. In this practice, according to the concept presented by Kouzes and Posner (1995), the characteristics of a leader include being hardworking; recognition of individual contributions and accomplishments; and letting other people feel like heroes. For this concept, I agree that in my current adult self, hardworking is the best attribute that can describe on how I seriously take my responsibility as a public servant and even in doing several tasks. I always believe nothing is accomplished to any plan without hardwork. Converging initiatives and efforts with other government agencies need a lot of hardwork. We are the regulatory agency that polices the use and distribution of all agricultural chemicals all over the country. In order to ensure the efficiency of field operations in the

different regions of the country, we need to have a convergence work with the DILG and DENR. The DILG, through the PNP, help the agency conduct raids and confiscation of fake and adulterated agrochemicals while the DENR through the Environment Management Bureau, helps conduct monitoring and evaluation of the chemical warehouses and other facilities to assess the possibilities of chemical accident. Just recently, with the help of DILG we able to confiscate 38 million worth of smuggled pesticides in Pangasinan and worth 200 million of adulterated fertilizer in Mindanao. If those seized toxic chemicals used in the agricultural soil, they will render our ecosystem dying and unproductive and jeopardize the health of Filipinos in the countryside since those chemicals are known to persist to the environment. There are a lot of rural development works conducted by the agency and those involved in the activities are always being recognized for their efforts and contributions for the success of our field operations. I have the lowest score in 1st column in the score of 56 which refers to the leadership practice of Model the Way concept. The characteristics of leaders under the aforesaid concept include setting interim goals toward larger objectives; unraveling bureaucracy when it impedes action and; putting signpost to guide where to go and how to get there. Although frequently I have the tendency to do those things but I am not a high risk taker. I have the tendency not to pursue decision that entails high risk even in the implementation of our projects unless I can define the variables of risk and I aware of the ways of controlling them. For me risk taking is the last chance to consider most especially if what at stake is of high prized value or critical to the organization and there is a great possibility of failure.
