# of Males: 0 # of Females: 1 Number of Accommodations and/or pertinent IEP Objectives Students 1 Instructor will be with student at all times when life-jacket is not in use in the pool. Student will need constant reminders on what task is being worked on. Student needs to continue to improve on floats and leg/arm actions while swimming. Leah will put her face in the water for 4 seconds while retrieving an object underwater. Leah will also simulate the freestyle kick with a kickboard by herself for half the width of the pool.

LESSON PLAN OBJECTIVES AND LIFE SKILLS

Skill Development 1. Basic Skill Instruction TSW learn the floating techniques and correct arm and leg action while swimming the freestyle and backstroke with and without a kickboard. TSW get introduced to small levels of treading water. 2. Application of Skills TSW use a kickboard while working on floating to gain comfort ability. TSW sit on the side of the pool simulating arm and leg actions for freestyle, and then perform them in the pool with and without a kickboard. TSW keep her head above water when treading. Kickboard to be used when performing. Fitness Benefits 3. Skill Related Fitness TSW develop coordination while swimming. By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to simulate correct floating techniques and correct swimming techniques with the front and backstroke. 4. Health Related Fitness TSW be able to gain a good cardiovascular workout while swimming in the pool. Life Skills 5. Effort TSW will put forth effort to listen to instruction better, thus being more successful in the pool. 6. Goal Setting TSW have the goal to successfully demonstrate a correct front float and back float. TSW use correct arm and leg techniques while swimming the freestyle for at least 5 seconds. 7. Communication

Introduction Total time: 15 Lesson Objective(s): Get into water using lift Introduce treading water in shallow end Practice arm motions for treading Practice leg motions for treading Practice being in a vertical position for treading Aligns with 1, 2,4 and 5 Planned Transitions: Jump off the side of the pool in between

Formations / Cues Touch your toes to the bottom! (encouraging to get her head wet) Keep your chin above the water Circle your feet Keep your fingers together

Assessment Assessment needs to be based on how far underwater she will go when first getting into the pool and how long she can hold herself above water while working on treading.

Main Activities Total time: 25

Lesson objective(s): Blow bubbles Bobbing Submerging Kick on front while being towed Kick on back while being towed Work on floats Work on traveling alongside the pool Sit on the side of the pool and work on kicks and arm motions, both front and back crawl Aligns with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Planned Transition: Swim over (using our strokes) to the toys

Formations / Cues
Big bubbles! Hold your breath Ponytail wet Look up at the sky Relax Look up to the sky Chin back Strong kicks

Assessment
Leahs distance on how far she can go by herself with the kickboard doing the freestyle kick will be one assessment. Also, how long she will float for with assistance will be another way to assess her. Need to keep her engaged and active at all times. Spending too much time on the same activities will result in Leah getting bored and squirmy.

Cool-down Total time: 5 Lesson objective(s): Play catch/fetch Swim after a toy or ball More submerging to retrieve a toy

Formations / Assessment Strategy

Student will put forth effort to listen to the instructor and be more comfortable putting face in the water. Student will work on parallel swimming. Student will work on floats to become more successful in the front and backstroke.

Assessment at the end of the lesson How well did the student adapted to treading water? Can student demonstrate correct arm and leg actions? How far did the student simulate kicking on her own for? Can student float comfortably? How long did the student float for? Can student go underwater voluntarily? Did student have fun? Equipment needs
Different toys Lift Kickboard

Safety Considerations
Students needs instructor with them at all times, especially without a lifejacket No running

Differentiated Instruction

Classroom Management/Democratic Practices

Modify Equipment-use kickboard and toy to keep attention and focus during lesson Modify Task-more-less physical assistance during swimming Modify Instruction-short verbal cues Keep the student interested-many different activities used during lesson Continuing to remind Leah to stay on task Reward Leah verbally if she listens Repetition Keep a variety of activities

Student will be in shallow end at all times.
