The Engineering World: Whats next?

When we listen to the word Engineering we think of numbers and graphs that are out of this world but we dont realize that engineering are surrounding us, they are a key part in our lives and we barely know about them, some of us dont even know they are everywhe re. Engineering may be described as the application of principles of various areas such as s ocial, economic and mainly scientific to design, manufacture, maintain and improve mater ials, systems, machines, processes and others, with the main objective of benefiting societ y.

Engineering has been changing our world for centuries. The term Engineering dates back t o the year 1325, however; fundamentals of what we now call Engineering were applied ce nturies before Christ. Engineering has been modeling this world, from the creation of the s mall and primitive inventions like: the leveler, the pulley and the wheel to the world-chang ing inventions like: The Telephone, the Diesel Engine, the Telegraph and the well-known St eam Engine during the Industrial Revolution.

Engineering is a very wide discipline which cant be referred as one. As in the case of Scien ce, Engineering is divided into sub-disciplines and the list grows over the years. Most of th ese sub-disciplines take part in our lives but we dont know it.

Engineering main purpose is benefiting society and it contributes in many different areas s uch as medical, technological and spatial.

The medical area has been probably one of the most benefited by the application of many engineering. We can emphasize the contributions of Chemical Engineering which is linked with molecular and tissue Engineering. With the help of Chemical Engineering more accur ate and less damaging drugs have been developed for improving the treatment for many d iseases. It has also helped in the development of biomaterials which are placed in our bod y for improving our health conditions. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering can be menti oned for neural treatment and manufacturing of biomedical devices respectively.

The technological area has been very benefited by the contributions of engineering like El ectronic Engineering, in the development of more powerful microprocessors and Material s Engineering in the improvement of the materials used for making different technological devices.

The Spatial area has been improved throughout the years too. From humans landing on th e moon in 1969 to the creation of an International Space Station in 1998 and the landing o f the Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity) in 2012. All these has been accomplished with th e help of many types of engineering.

Scientists are looking forward improving each of these areas, with the aid of Engineering. The medical area wants to be improved by creating nanobots to destroy cancer cells, the t

echnological area is hoping for foldable electronic devices and the spatial counts with the ambitious project of setting a human colony in Mars, among others.

Engineering has been running this world for centuries by making possible what was once u nbelievable. We cant even think of whats next.

Some people believe in magic, I'd rather believe in engineering, and you?
